Summary This position is located in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Loma Linda VA Health Care System located in Loma Linda, CA. This position is part of the Plumbing Unit of the Maintenance and Operation Section of the Facilities Management Service. The primary purpose of the position is to perform and lead journeyman Pipefitter and Plumbing work. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Reviews and assigns all work required for the Plumbing Shop. Obtains needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work; maintain current knowledge, and answer questions from other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives (for example, technical orders). Ensures there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy; check work while in progress and when finished and work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Advises other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines. Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Reports to supervisors on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays Answers questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning, additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). Shares instructions received from supervisors and getting work started, e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led. Works along with other workers and set the pace. Demonstrates proper work methods. Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available and needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Repairs, inspects and maintains water, sewer, steam, natural gas, medical gas, and fire sprinkler systems; including: hot water heaters, regulating valves, fixtures, and back flow devices. Reads blueprints Reads and interpret instructions, and specifications as related to pipefitting. Repairs and installs of domestic water systems; fire sprinkler system piping; repair of valves, regulators, filter systems, toilets, sinks, and associated piping. Works plumbing and steam fitting work necessary in the installation of equipment; including, the repair of steam traps and pressure relief valves. Assist with the installation/repair of mechanical pumping systems; including, sump pumps, brine pumps, condensate pumps, and pulverizing systems.
