Intercollegiate Athletic Trainer
Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC)
Position Summary
Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking an experienced and motivated Intercollegiate Athletic Trainer to support Division I student-athletes through high-quality sports medicine care. This role provides services to athletes who experience injuries, functional limitations, or changes in physical function or health status. The Athletic Trainer collaborates daily with a multidisciplinary healthcare and educational team and serves as a liaison between VUMC Sports Medicine and the University's athletic programs.
Term Position Information
This is a Term position.
A Term position is a staff position that is expected to exist for a period longer than six months, but generally not beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept Term positions are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the limit of the appointment. There are no guarantees of continued employment, either within the term or when the term ends. Hires in term positions are bound by all VUMC policies and procedures and must successfully complete an initial orientation period. Staff members in term positions are eligible for certain benefits.
Sports Assignment
This role will be assigned to one of the following sports:
Men's Basketball
Soccer/Lacrosse
Track/Cross-Country
Football/Bowling
Sport assignment is determined based on experience, program needs, and departmental structure.
Key Responsibilities
Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play services for student-athletes with injuries or health-related concerns.
Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, strength and conditioning staff, and athletic administrators to ensure coordinated athlete care.
Maintain complete documentation, injury tracking, and communication consistent with VUMC, NCAA, and team protocols.
Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, health promotion, recovery strategies, and performance optimization.
Support practice and game coverage, including travel as required by the sport assignment.
Serve as a professional representative of VUMC within the collegiate athletics environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.
BOC Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).
Eligible for Tennessee state licensure.
Experience working with intercollegiate or elite athletes preferred.
Strong clinical reasoning, communication skills, and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.

TREATMENT IMPLEMENTATION Term Prof (FUNDAMENTAL AWARENESS):: Demonstrates proficiency in providing treatment consistent with physician prescription and established plan of care. Able to
modify treatment plan as needed to demonstrate provision of skilled therapy services including progression of treatment
throughout course of care, and revision of treatment interventions of goals not met. May supervise and direct volunteers and students. Selects and
follows correct protocol for care and utilize evidence based treatments.
