Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, GPO Field Actions serves as BD's global process owner for the Field Action process. The role oversees the design, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the process, ensuring alignment with global regulatory requirements and BD quality system expectations. It maintains process standards, ensures stakeholders understand their responsibilities, and supports audits and inspections.
This position partners with Business Units, Regions, Regulatory Compliance, Post Market Quality, and other functions to ensure consistent application of the global process. The role does not lead or manage field action execution.
The role strengthens BD's quality system by driving process clarity, harmonization, and data-driven improvements. Responsibilities include ownership of global procedures, electronic systems, training materials, process controls, and readiness for internal and external audits. The role will lead a network of field action representatives from the Business Units and Regions. The position reports to the Director of Quality Systems within Central Quality.

Position Overview
We're seeking a detail-oriented Associate Director to lead our global Field Actions process in a dynamic, matrixed environment. This pivotal role ensures compliant, well-documented processes that support consistent decision pathways across BD. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical skills with sound judgment, collaborate effectively while working independently, and demonstrate exceptional communication abilities with an unwavering commitment to quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Process Ownership & Governance
Own and manage the comprehensive global Field Action process, including design, maintenance, and revision control
Ensure alignment with critical regulations (21 CFR Parts 7, 806, 820, ISO 13485, and regional requirements)
Develop and maintain global procedures, work instructions, forms, and job aids
Define and sustain clear governance expectations, roles, and responsibilities across all stakeholder groups
Regulatory & Audit Support
Maintain process alignment with current regulatory expectations and industry best practices
Serve as process expert during audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries
Provide authoritative guidance to Business Units and Regions on process interpretation
Training & Capability Development
Create and maintain comprehensive global training materials for the Field Action process
Support capability building initiatives for all stakeholders involved in field action decision making
Metrics & Continuous Improvement
Develop and track meaningful process metrics to monitor performance, timeliness, completeness, and compliance
Analyze data trends to identify strategic improvement opportunities
Lead process improvement initiatives that enhance clarity, efficiency, and compliance
Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate across functions (Business Unit Quality, Regional Quality, Regulatory Compliance, Medical Affairs, Legal) to maintain global alignment
Serve as the recognized subject matter expert for the Field Action process
Provide expert process guidance in cross-functional discussions
Cross-Functional Integration
Seamlessly integrate field action requirements with related quality system processes (complaint handling, risk management, post-market surveillance, QMS governance)
Partner with QMS design authorities and Digital/IT teams to ensure system functionality supports compliance and data integrity
Approximately 20% global travel based on business needs.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in life Sciences, engineering, or a related field.
8 years of experience in regulated industries such as medical devices, diagnostics, or pharmaceuticals.
Experience in field actions, quality systems, regulatory compliance, post market quality, or closely related areas.
Working knowledge of global regulatory requirements for field actions such as 21 CFR Parts 7, 806, and 820 and ISO 13485.
Experience working in global, matrixed environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or MBA
Experience maintaining or designing global quality processes
Knowledge and Skills
Proven change agent with ability to drive improvements across large organizations.
Strong knowledge of quality systems in medical devices, diagnostics, or pharmaceuticals.
Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into clear process expectations.
Strong communication, facilitation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Ability to lead process improvements and use data to identify trends or improvement opportunities.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Familiarity with post market regulatory expectations in the United States and key global regions.

Salary Range Information
$181,076 - $289,723 USD Annual/Hourly
