Position Summary
CVS Health is seeking a Lead Data Scientist - Agentic AI - Patient Safety to pioneer the next generation of analytics and decision intelligence that supports safe, high-quality pharmacy care across our national retail footprint. This role focuses on building and scaling generative AI and agentic AI solutions that enhance medication safety, strengthen clinical decision-making, and improve pharmacy workflows in CVS Pharmacy and our omnichannel pharmacy experience. You will design and execute a safety-first, consumer-centric analytics strategy powered by AI agents and LLMs that integrates prescribing, dispensing, adherence, and engagement data to deliver proactive insights and closed-loop support for pharmacy teams. You will partner with pharmacy operations, clinical, digital, and technology teams to ensure our tech-enabled pharmacy remains powered by people, supporting colleagues with intelligent tools while advancing CVS Health's purpose to simplify health care and improve the health and well-being of those we serve.
Required Qualifications
5+ years of experience in advanced analytics, applied AI/ML, or decision science, with significant work in healthcare, pharmacy, or patient safety.
3+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying solutions with LLMs, generative AI, or conversational AI frameworks (e.g., LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, RAG), including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, safety guardrails, and human-in-the-loop workflows; prior NLP/ML experience before LLMs is strongly valued.
5+ years of programming experience in Python and SQL, with experience deploying AI solutions in cloud environments (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and integrating with enterprise data platforms.
5+ years' experience in at least one area of advanced modeling for patient safety and pharmacy operations: predictive modeling for medication safety, medication error detection, non-adherence prediction, time-series forecasting, causal inference, or reinforcement learning for workflow optimization.
3+ years' experience translating complex AI and safety analytics into measurable clinical and business impact, including working with pharmacy leaders, clinical safety, and compliance partners.
3+ years' experience leading end-to-end AI solution delivery: from data curation and model development through validation, deployment, monitoring, and scaled adoption across retail pharmacy locations.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders, with a track record of building intuitive tools for pharmacists, technicians, clinicians, and call-center agents.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience implementing agentic AI systems for clinical decision support, medication therapy management, or continuous safety surveillance in retail or specialty pharmacy.
Experience with healthcare AI platforms (e.g., Vertex AI, Google Cloud Platform, or equivalent) and integration with dispensing systems, EHRs, PBM platforms, and safety event reporting tools.
-Proficiency with BI and analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Power BI) and modern data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake or similar) to enable self-service patient safety analytics for CVS leaders.
Background in pharmacy, healthcare, epidemiology, or patient safety, with a strong interest in leveraging AI to enhance medication safety, adherence, and outcomes at population scale.
Knowledge of AI governance, observability, and ethics frameworks to ensure transparent, auditable, and bias-aware decision intelligence in regulated healthcare settings.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including clinical safety, quality, risk management, regulatory, digital, and store operations in a large matrixed organization.
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Economics, Physics, Engineering, or related discipline.
Master's degree or PhD preferred
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$130,295.00 - $284,280.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
