Position Overview
The Operations Supervisor is a key operational leader responsible for managing and supporting multiple crew members performing line-clearance tree-trimming activities around energized utility infrastructure. This position ensures safety, quality, and productivity while maintaining compliance with company standards, customer requirements, regulatory obligations, and vegetation-management best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Operational Oversight
Lead and manage a team of Crew Members, ensuring safety, work quality, and adherence to all line-clearance standards.
Conduct daily job/safety briefings to communicate hazards, scope changes, and operational expectations.
Monitor and control crew costs, ensuring efficient use of labor, equipment, and work methods.
Train, coach, and guide Crew Members to improve skills, productivity, and adherence to safe work practices.
Review daily production, safety trends, and work progress, ensuring crews follow proper trimming standards consistent with utility specifications.
Customer & Stakeholder Interaction
Serve as the primary field contact for customers, agencies, inspectors, and property owners.
Manage customer inquiries, verify work expectations, and assist in resolving field concerns.
Coordinate with internal teams and Project Managers to ensure alignment of field activities with contract requirements.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce UTS safety policies, procedures, and core values in all aspects of work.
Respond immediately to any accidents or incidents; conduct preliminary investigation and ensure reporting is completed per company policy.
Submit Job Behavior Observations (JBOs), Safety Management Processes (SMPs), and other required documentation.
Oversee vehicle inspections and equipment checks to ensure compliance and identify damage or deficiencies.
Verify adherence to regulatory frameworks such as CPUC rules, NERC requirements, and other requirements.
Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities
Track and report daily metrics including safety, quality, production, attendance, and time records.
Ensure sign-in sheets, reports, compliance documentation, and data logs are properly completed and filed.
Support claims investigations, documentation reviews, and customer-requested reporting.
Assist Project Managers with project planning, special assignments, and contract-driven work elements.
Workforce Development
Participate in hiring processes, including interviewing, selecting, and onboarding new employees.
Provide training on proper trimming techniques, safety protocols, equipment handling, and utility-specific requirements.
Required Skillsets
This position requires strong situational awareness, leadership presence, and the ability to adapt quickly in dynamic and often hazardous environments. Operations Supervisors are critical to ensuring that crews meet productivity goals while protecting workers, the public, and the electrical system.
Minimum of 2 years' experience supervising field operations, preferably in utility vegetation management.
ISA Certification required .
Herbicide Applicator License preferred.
Ability to safely drive an approved company vehicle.
Ability to work long hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency call-outs.
Moderate proficiency with computer applications (Word, Excel, Email, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older.

Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
2 years' experience in Supervision of Field Operations preferred.
ISA Certification.
Herbicide License.
Pre-Screen

Safety
Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous time a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate & handle confrontations professionally.
