Facilities Electrical Engineer will be responsible for PLC/HMI program development for engine-dyno testing support systems, Dynamometer systems troubleshooting/upgrades, pollution abatement control systems and EQO office reporting. This also includes performing project management responsibilities for above application related capital projects.
The Vehicle Evaluation and Verification team in Product Development is responsible for the signoff of vehicle systems and subsystems to meet engineering requirements by performing development and durability testing at multiple testing laboratory sites. The Engine Labs Facility Engineering activity which is part of VEV powertrain is looking for a detail oriented, self-starter to join our team. The prospective engineer will be responsible for the successful design, automation and delivery of facility engineering tasks/projects in support of automotive engine & powertrain development and validation testing at the Dynamometer Laboratory building, and Research & Innovations Center Dyno/Components areas.
What you'll do...
Direct and manage the design, installation, and application of mechanical/electrical systems used in support of engine Research, Development and Components testing.
Specify, develop and design the facility utility interfaces for test cell mechanical/electrical equipment used to support engine dynamometer and components testing.
Specify, develop and design the installation details for central building process mechanical/electrical equipment.
Work in collaboration with customers, test engineers, and support staff to interpret and translate testing needs into accurate mechanical/electrical design documents. Optimize the design of new mechanical/electrical systems to maximize test efficiency and minimize energy consumption.
Prepare mechanical/electrical system specifications, project timing plans, and Bill of Materials lists for test cell and facility systems.
Design, modify and adapt fluids systems used to condition engine jacket water, oil, charge air, combustion air and fuel in order to meet changing customer and product needs.
Manage capital projects to deliver engine testing facility upgrades and work with the business office with lab forecast budgeting for facility upgrades.
Serve as a technical resource for the design, estimating, and scheduling of equipment installation projects. Interact with AE firms, Certified Construction Manager partners and equipment suppliers in the design and implementation of new equipment installation projects.
Work with skilled trades, other team members, and technicians during the installation, modification and commissioning of new mechanical/electrical equipment as well as supporting/maintaining existing facility related equipment.
Interface with Safety Engineers, Environmental Engineers and corresponding vendors/suppliers in maintaining building and environmental requirements.
You'll have...
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
5+ years of experience in 13.2KV and below electrical distribution systems.
5+ years of experience working on and troubleshooting HVAC, control valves, electric motors, generators, and associated control systems such as VFDs', Dynamometer drive controllers, etc.
5+ years of PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.Proficiency in Ladder, ST and FBD.
5+ years of experience in troubleshooting of low voltage control systems.
5+ years of experience in the following:
Industrial electrical distribution systems, materials compatibility and documents.
Inspecting quality of electrical repair and installation work.
Reading and modifying of AUTOCAD documents including one-line diagrams.
Knowledgeable in National Fire Protection Association, Building Officials Code Administrators and corporate codes and requirements.
5+ years of experience in project management.
5+ years of experience in control systems architecture development

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.
10+ years of experience working on electric motors, generators, and associated control systems such as VFDs, Dynamometer drive controllers, etc.
Background in internal combustion engine dynamometer testing and related test measurement systems.
3+ years' experience working on thermal oxidizers/burners systems.
10+ years of PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.Proficiency in Ladder, ST and FBD.
10+ FactoryTalk HMI design software
Experience in communication protocols such as TCP/IP, DH+, Profibus and Modbus
10+ years process control loop tuning and programing ability (PID/PIDE Expertise).
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
Strong technical leadership, organization, teamwork and communication skills.
Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certified.
Professional Engineering license.

This position is a salary grade 5 to salary grade 8, from $63,480-162,120.
