VIOLENCE CEASEFIRE PART TIME ATTORNEY
The Pulaski County Commonwealth Attorneys Office is seeking to fill a part-time Narcotics and Violence Ceasefire Attorney position. This position plays a crucial role in reducing violence and the collateral effects of drug addiction by strategically prosecuting repeat and violent offenders, targeting felony firearm crimes, and working closely with law enforcement and community partners. They also ensure robust enforcement of illegal gun laws and may focus on suppressing gun violence through a combination of prosecution and prevention efforts. The prosecutor will practice under the discretion of the Commonwealth Attorney, and will have a case load consisting of cases in Pulaski County General District Court and Circuit Court, unsolved, uncharged cases in various investigative stages in Pulaski County, with the goal of reducing violent crimes within the Commonwealth and to eliminate preventable cycles of violence.
Applicant must be a member of the State Bar with Good Standing. This position is grant funded with a 12-month commitment. The position requires 20 to 24 hours of work per week, spread over 2.5 days. The salary for this position will be contingent on the grant and the renewal of the grant.

Supervision Received: Commonwealth Attorney. Employee will undergo a six-month orientation period and will be evaluated at the end of the six-month term.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position will work to reduce violent crime by focusing on preventing and prosecuting offenders. They collaborate with law enforcement, community leaders, and other partners to achieve this goal. The prosecutor will have a caseload consisting of cases in Pulaski County General District Court and Circuit Court, unsolved, uncharged cases in various investigative stages in Pulaski County, with the goal of reducing violent crimes within the Commonwealth and to eliminate preventable cycles of violence. Physical presence on the job is required as essentialfunctions and responsibilities are not suited to remote work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Handle crimes of violent in General District and Circuit Court
Works at the discretion of the CWA
Consult with law enforcement and victims on the regular
Review of body cam footage as provided by law enforcement officers
Keep stats and submit to DCJS
Responsible for locating evidence that is exculpatory and required to be turned over to a defendant
Partner with the regional gang investigators to identify and investigate any gang related nexus to violent crimes and firearms violations
Provide legal advice for the obtaining of evidence related to violent crimes, make initial introductions to surviving members of violent crimes, discovery, and represent the Commonwealth in the preliminary hearings in district court and the circuit court trials and pleas
Prosecution focus is on possession and narcotics cases, murders, aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding, unlawful wounding, felon in possession of firearms, discharge firearm from vehicle, abductions, drug related crimes with a direct nexus to violence but not limited to the above and at the discretion of the Commonwealth Attorney
Identify, investigate, and recommend federal prosecutions of offenders who meet the criteria.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The Pulaski Commonwealths Attorneys Office follows a vertical-prosecution model
ADA REQUIREMENTS: Ability to remain stationary at a desk and operate computer equipment for periods of up to three hours continuously, ability to read and write and to exchange information, ability to file papers, ability to move up to 50 pounds, dexterity required to operate keypads, push buttons, and switches, ability to work independently in the absence of specific instruction and ability to meet the public courteously and effectively.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Virginia State Bar License in good standing required
PROFESSIONALISM AND CONFIDENTIALITY:
Understands and consistently implements all County policies and procedures
Maintains confidentiality with all clients and law enforcement staff
TRAINING AND JOB DEVELOPMENT:
Participates in conferences, workshops, webinars, and other opportunities to maintain knowledge and current laws
Works with staff to discuss and resolve problems and provide ideas for improvement
