SUMMARY Responsible for developing, implementing and managing a school health program for a school population as defined by the school district. Salary: \$67,924.10 (min) to \$106,049.83 (max) annually with BSN, DOE Qualified \$73,636.73 (min) to \$ 115,298.79 (max) annually with MSN, DOE Qualified ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages a comprehensive school health program in line with MA

guidelines, statutes, and local district policy.

Collaborates with physicians, administrators, and staff to review

and revise health policies, procedures, and programs; contributes to needs assessments and data collection.

Oversees training and supervision of health paraprofessionals;

ensures compliance with the Nurse Practice Act; implements state-mandated programs (e.g., immunization, screenings); supports school safety practices and emergency response planning; conducts staff in-service on health, emergency care, and medically challenged students; maintains health records.

Partners with school staff to assess and improve the

social-emotional climate and promote a healthy school environment.

Establishes systems to identify at-risk students and communicates

needs to staff; coordinates internal/external referrals; includes families in care planning when appropriate.

Identifies student health needs for IEPs and serves on relevant

teams and committees.

Uses population data to plan and evaluate school health programming

and nursing services.

Prepares reports for school officials, MDPH, and other agencies on

health services provided.

Develops individualized health care plans with parents/guardians

using the nursing process; conducts assessments, home visits, nursing diagnoses, and interventions; offers counseling and crisis support; evaluates student outcomes.

Collaborates with community partners to assess, plan, implement, and

evaluate school and community health services across the prevention continuum.

Uses media to share health information and advocate for school

health programs and student wellness.

Applies nursing theory to school practice; expands knowledge through

research and evolving student health needs.

Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated current knowledge in such areas as professional issues

in school nursing, school and community health, communicable disease control, growth and development, health assessment, special health conditions, both chronic and acute, injury prevention and emergency care, health counseling and health education and promotion.

Must have a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in MA;

Hold a minimum of a BS in Nursing from a college or university

program accredited by the National League for Nursing; two years of experience in community health or child health prior to entry into school nursing practice. Works towards and subsequently maintains certification in school nursing, community health nursing or pediatric/school nurse practitioner by a nationally recognized professional nursing organization.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Current and valid license as a Registered Nurse in MA; Certified by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a school nurse or able to meet the requirements for licensure. Licensure must be obtained within one year from date of hire. Driver\'s license may be required.
