JOB SUMMARY

This float position requires entry-level skills in both Administrative work and Early Childhood Education with instructional support to the Early Childhood teacher and classroom. Under direct supervision, the employee provides routine general clerical support such as answering phones, filing, taking and delivering messages, preparing mailings and photocopying. As an Instructional Assistant, this position will assist lead teacher with instructional activities to provide learning experiences to individual and small groups of students.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative Specialist 1:

Sort and file paperwork (alphabetical, numerical, by subject, etc.) by rules and directions provided.

Receive, label, log, file and retrieve data (Daily Attendance).

Answer telephones, screen calls, respond to inquiries and/or refer callers to appropriate individuals and/or departments.

Some employees may have to deal with sensitive and/or potentially volatile situations.

Prepare mailings for distribution and/or processing.

Operate office equipment (i.e: copier, adding machine, fax machine, etc.).

Run errands and work on special projects as needed.

Instructional Assistant 1:

Assist in the daily care and instruction of children in the early childhood classroom.

Assist instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercises.

Assist individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up on learning activities

Supervise students in a variety of educational settings for up to 30-45 minutes each setting.

Assist in the preparation of a variety of instructional material and learning aids, for use with individual or small groups of students.

Assist lead teacher (by using good judgment) in taking appropriate action to assist injured or physically ill students.

Assist in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment.

Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members , each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Required: Graduation from a high school or equivalent with course work in general office practices, and six (6) months of related experience. An Initial Early Childhood Education Certificate or A Child Development (CDA) credential or must be willing to obtain within one (1) year of employment. One (1) year of professional experience working with children in preschool, daycare, or similar setting.

Special Requirements: Must pass a criminal background check, a drug screen and meet all health and immunization requirements. Must be able to obtain satisfactory results on a pre-employment physical examination, including tuberculosis screening.

Using standard office equipment, including personal computer.

Knowledge of:

Basic concepts of child development and developmental behavior characteristics.

Basic effective behavior management techniques.

Rules and procedures for child/student safety.

Ability to:

Read and write.

Follow verbal and written instructions.

Work with students in a positive and confident manner.

Observe safe work practices.

Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.

A rrive to work in a timely manner.

Attend required training.

Maintain confidentiality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class . While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet

Licenses or Certifications Required

A valid Washington State driver's license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe. A valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR certificate and Food Handler's permit may be required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
