What you'll do...
We are seeking a talented and passionate Director of software engineering to join our team , you will serve as a visionary hands-on leader, actively coding, setting the technical direction and architectural standards across multiple domains specially for out AI/ML consumer health solutions. You will drive enterprise-wide technology strategy, influence senior stakeholders, and ensure that Walmart's solutions are innovative, scalable, secure to activate customers for healthier living and create value across multiple business segments. About the team: The Consumer Health and Data Solutions team consists of:
Incubation: includes Walmart Everyday Health Signals (EHS), a health insights product, and Walmart's Nutrition Hub, which supports personalized healthy eating powered by EHS
Digital Business Services: includes customer identity, digital engagement, and business analytics to support health and wellness lines of business
What You'll Do Set Technical Vision & Architecture
Define, communicate, and evolve a clear long-term technical vision aligned with business strategy and customer needs.
Architect and deliver cloud-native microservices, APIs, and data pipelines that power join, renewal, and churn-reduction experiences across digital and in-club channels.
Own system architecture decisions to ensure platforms meet performance, scalability, security, reliability, and compliance requirements.
Provide technical leadership for enterprise-scale, microservices-based and cloud-native platforms , ensuring extensibility and maintainability over time.
Partner with enterprise and domain architects to drive consistency, reuse, and architectural best practices across the organization.
Drive Engineering Excellence & Operational Maturity
Establish and champion engineering best practices, including CI/CD maturity, automation, testing strategies, and code quality standards to improve delivery speed and reliability.
Drive adoption of telemetry, monitoring, alerting, and observability aligned to domain and business requirements.
Continuously assess and improve system non-functional characteristics such as availability, reliability, performance efficiency, operability, and security .
Lead incident response and escalation , including technical impact analysis and root cause analysis (RCA), ensuring durable fixes and preventative measures.
Ensure platforms meet enterprise standards for security, data privacy, compliance, and resilience .
Leverage generative AI and emerging technologies to improve developer productivity, platform capabilities, and delivery velocity.
Lead, Develop, and Grow Talent
Build, lead, and mentor a strong leadership bench of Senior Engineering Managers and Architects .
Define and execute a long-term talent strategy , including hiring, onboarding, mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning.
Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, continuous learning, and psychological safety .
Coach leaders and teams to operate effectively at scale while maintaining high engineering standards.
Execution & Stakeholder Leadership
Own execution across multiple products and services, managing cross-team dependencies, risks, and trade-offs .
Ensure engineering roadmaps and milestones are aligned with product strategy, business priorities, and enterprise initiatives .
Partner effectively with stakeholders at all levels, providing clear communication, transparency, and data-driven updates.
Operate with rigor by defining and managing to KPIs, OKRs, and operational metrics , and presenting outcomes to senior leadership.
What You Bring
10+ years of experience in software architecture and engineering leadership, specializing in retail tech, large-scale AI, and health solutions. Proven ability to design, develop, and scale modular and extensible platforms for large user bases.
Proven experience leading large-scale engineering organizations and delivering complex, distributed systems in an enterprise environment.
Strong technical depth with the ability to make high-quality architectural decisions while balancing short-term delivery needs and long-term platform health .
A hands-on, ownership-driven leadership style with a strong bias for action, accountability, and results .
Expertise in modern architecture (microservices, event-driven, distributed computing) and cloud engineering (Azure, GCP, AWS). Deep proficiency in containerization (Kubernetes, Docker) and serverless architectures
Strong Experience designing and implementing self-service ML deployment platforms and API gateways for enterprise environments
Experience with high-scale transactional systems, and real-time data streaming.
Proficiency in database technologies and deep understanding their designs and limitations (SQL and NoSQL)
Proficiency in modern programming languages (Java, C++, Python, TypeScript).
Drives DevSecOps and CI/CD automation, focusing on observability and performance optimization. Strong grasp of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitOps) and testing frameworks (Integration, Unit, etc.).
Ability to influence senior executives, engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders and passion for growing engineering talent
experienced in running large-scale data platforms. Skilled in writing clear design documentation and performing deep analysis and diagnosis of production issues
Experienced in cross-functional collaboration (Scrum, QA, Release, Program, TechOps). Possesses strong business acumen, integrating technical vision with strategic insights, and demonstrates exceptional communication skills.
Bonus points:
Familiar with machine learning and deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch). Experience with enterprise-scale production ML deployment.
Expertise in agentic AI systems, multi-agent frameworks, and LLM-based agents. Skilled in architecting and implementing these AI solutions for complex challenges.
Experience building intelligent observability and monitoring systems that use ML for anomaly detection
Experience developing self-healing infrastructure platforms that leverage AI to predict, prevent, and automatically resolve system issues before they impact customers or business operations across any Walmart system.

The annual salary range for this position is $169,000.00 - $338,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
