Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer (Designer IV) to join a Launch Vehicle Mechanical Engineering Design team supporting high-reliability aerospace and defense programs. This role is responsible for reviewing, creating, and validating complex mechanical designs and drawing packages to ensure compliance with applicable industry, aerospace, and military standards.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong mechanical design and drafting experience, deep expertise in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), and hands-on experience using Siemens NX with Teamcenter in a production environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign Review & Validation
Review mechanical drawing and design packages to ensure proper content, accuracy, and compliance with applicable standards
Verify designs for fit, function, manufacturability, and cost-effective fabrication
Perform and assess tolerance analysis, hardware selection, and assembly fitment
Serve as a subject-matter expert to resolve GD&T interpretation issues per ASME Y14.5
Modeling & Drafting
Create and modify fully defined 3D component and assembly models using Siemens NX managed in Teamcenter
Create and revise parametric drawings in conformance with ASME 3D modeling and drawing standards
Verify consistency and integrity between 3D models and corresponding drawings prior to release
Cross-Functional & Vendor Support
Interface regularly with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams
Provide technical clarification and design support to manufacturing
Liaise with external vendors as required to support fabrication and design intent
Leadership & Oversight
As requested, supervise and direct the activities of design staff
Support schedule commitments by working efficiently under deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality
Qualifications:
Associate degree (2-year technical degree) in Drafting, Engineering, or a related discipline
6+ years of directly related experience in mechanical design and drafting
Strong mechanical design experience supporting aerospace, defense, or high-reliability manufacturing environments
Advanced experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5-2009
GDTP Professional Certification preferred
Experience with Digital Product Definition (DPD) practices per ASME Y14.41
Hands-on experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter
Knowledge of standard manufacturing processes including CNC milling and lathe operations
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance if required
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
Comfortable working extended periods at a workstation
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail
Preferred:
Experience with weld design per AWS D17.1 and D1.1
AWS CWI certification preferred
Previous experience supporting DoD programs
Working knowledge of the following standards:
ASME Y14.100
MIL-STD-100

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $46.00/hr.
