INFICON Inc. is seeking an Application Development Engineer for its East Syracuse, NY location. The Application Development Engineer will work closely with major Semiconductor and Display customers to develop product applications using INFICON Sensors. The Application Development Engineer will also act as a technical consultant, advise field Engineers and customers on application BKM's, and work closely with internal R&D groups to investigate and verify new sensor concepts. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with field applications to create custom integration solutions for new and existing INFICON solutions. Develop product Applications on various semiconductor and display manufacturing equipment tools. Assess the properties and performance of various materials to determine their suitability for specific applications. Design and optimize machinery and processes to manufacture materials efficiently and to high standards. Develop new applications for existing materials, which can involve significant research and experimentation. Work with specific @types of materials, such as: Composite Materials: Combining two or more materials to create a product with superior properties. Graphite, Metals, and Alloys: Developing and improving metals and their combinations for various uses. Ceramics and Glass: Creating materials that can withstand high temperatures and other extreme conditions. Plastics and Polymers: Innovating in the field of synthetic materials for a wide range of applications. Naturally Occurring Materials: Enhancing the properties of materials found in nature for industrial use. Interpret sensor data to characterize, optimize and trouble shoot semiconductor equipment and processes. Act as a technical consultant and advise field Engineer or customers on application BKMs. Interact cross-functionally with local Sales & Support team, factory engineering and product management to ensure alignment with customer's needs. Trouble shoot critical product performance issues at the hardware level and monitor health of equipment installed base via periodic audits.Participate in customer meetings, escalations and new opportunity discussions. Interface internally with Product and Account Management to communicate technical requirements and recommendations as parts of the solution development process where off-the-shelf solutions may not be an ideal fit. Routinely interface with counterparts in other locations to leverage new opportunities. Collect, analyze and present data and findings, perform Design of Experiments (DOE's) based on Return of Investment (ROI) for customers. Document laboratory work and equipment evaluations of INFICON and competitor instruments. Develop and present presentations to customers regarding products and applications. Write application bulletins and technical articles to be published in conjunction with the Corporate Communications Department. Must have a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or related field and 4 years of related experience. Required experience must include at least 4 years in the following specific skills: Performing fault analysis on commercial semiconductor manufacturing process using data from Residual Gas Analyzers, optical emission spectrometers, and radio frequency sensors; Utilizing semiconductor fabrication skills in the production process; Setting up communication between sensor and customer networks to monitor sensor performance; Utilizing Residual Gas Analyzers, optical emission spectrometers, and radio frequency sensors to monitor and improve semiconductor fabrication; Utilizing technical communication skills to bring all sensor requirements and customers specifications back to internal units to improve or customize the product; and Performing surface characteristics measurements for sensor failure analysis
