Hyatt seeks an extraordinary Gen AI Engineering leader to help build the algorithmic assets and features that Hyatt guests, members, customers, and internal users leverage to transform the guest experience and drive efficiencies across the operations of our business.
In this role, you will design and implement Gen AI solutions and partner closely with ML Engineering, Personalization, Forecasting, and Decision Science domains. This role will work cross-functionally with various data science teams, data engineering teams, and data architecture teams. The ideal candidate can be a hands-on technical leader who is skilled as an implementation engineer while also leading the team to innovate and build cutting-edge Gen AI products and services.

Qualifications:
Applied ML Research
Design, train, and evaluate machine learning models for search relevance and ranking, information retrieval, recommender systems using large-scale behavioral and content data.
Develop and experiment with NLP and representation learning techniques, including embeddings, semantic search, and query-document matching for both lexical and semantic retrieval systems.
Develop ML systems to support AI assistants for conversational experiences, including intent classification, query rewriting, response ranking, and grounding using retrieved knowledge.
Run offline evaluations and contribute to online experimentation (A/B, multi-arm and multivariate testing) to measure impact on relevance, engagement, and conversion.
Perform feature engineering across structured and unstructured data sources, including text, user interaction logs, and @contextual signals.
Collaborate with machine learning engineers to transition models from experimentation to production inference pipelines (batch and real-time).
Analyze model behavior, diagnose failure modes, and iterate on data, features, and architectures to improve performance and robustness.
Proto@type and benchmark new modeling approaches informed by recent research in information retrieval, recommendation systems, and applied generative AI.
Document modeling assumptions, evaluation results, and trade-offs to support reproducibility and cross-team collaboration.
Qualifications - External
Required
Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning, or a closely related field.
Strong theoretical and practical foundation in:
o Supervised and unsupervised learning
o Probability and statistics
o Optimization and linear algebra
Proficiency in Python for data analysis, feature engineering, and model development.
Hands-on experience with at least one ML framework such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
Experience working with SQL and large-scale datasets.
Familiarity with model evaluation, error analysis, and experiment design.
Preferred
Academic, internship, or project experience in one or more of the following:
o Search relevance and ranking models
o Information retrieval (lexical and semantic)
o Recommender systems (collaborative filtering, content-based, hybrid)
o Agentic implementations preferably user-facing
Exposure to deep learning architectures (e.g., transformers, bi-encoders and cross-encoders).
Understanding of offline and online evaluation methodologies, including A/B testing.
Experience using cloud or distributed computing environments (e.g., AWS, Spark, Ray) through coursework or projects.
Familiarity with model deployment concepts such as batch inference, real-time APIs, and model monitoring (conceptual understanding sufficient).
Strong analytical thinking and ability to translate ambiguous product problems into well-defined modeling tasks.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $140,000. This position is also eligible to earn incentive awards and an annual bonus. The final pay rate/salary offered to the successful candidate will depend on experience, skill level and other qualifications for the role, as well as the location of the performance of work. Pay for the successful candidate will meet local requirements, including the local minimum wage rate.
