Summary:

The Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) is a team of dedicated professionals providing core technology and cybersecurity services to agencies statewide, enabling state employees to serve Idaho's citizens. We sincerely hope you will consider being a part of our success!

ITS currently has an opportunity for IT Software Engineer I to join our team at our Chinden Office in Boise. This position will provide software development services for a wide range of applications in support of state agency missions.

The selected individual must have software development experience, active troubleshooting skills, the ability to collaborate across teams, and good knowledge of SDLC best practices. The successful candidate will be familiar with secure coding principles, and working in an Agile team environment.

Please note: The successful candidate will be required to pass multiple, comprehensive fingerprint-based background checks specific to the agencies ITS supports. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. The Idaho Office of Information Technology Services is unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of an employment visa or participate in Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Example of Duties:

Develops and delivers software applications to fulfill business needs;

Enhances and maintains existing systems;

Participates in code reviews;

Collaborates with customer and ITS teams to define system requirements;

Provides application support and issue resolution;

Performs testing and quality assurance activities;

Participates in process improvement activities;

Creates documentation for system and user support;

Provides excellent customer service and communication.

Minimum Qualifications:

Good knowledge of:

Multiple programming languages and software development tool suites.

Typically gained by one course of classroom instruction at an accredited college or vocational-tech level directly related to one programming language and software development tool suites AND 6 months of work experience using programming languages and software development tools OR one year of work experience using programming languages and software development tools.

Software development processes and software testing practices.

Typically gained by a valid IT certification in software testing and development OR at least one year of work experience testing and developing software.

Experience:

Creating, interpreting and documenting user requirements.

Typically gained by at least one year of work experience on at least one development project.

Testing and deploying production systems.

Typically gained by at least one year of work experience testing and deploying production systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., C#, Java, JavaScript) and familiarity with frameworks like .NET Core or React.

Experience consuming RESTful APIs in software solutions.

Experience working with relational databases (SQL) and knowledge of Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks such as Entity Framework Core.

Understanding of Agile development practices and secure coding principles.

Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) and containerization (Docker).

Awareness of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) and best practices for integrating AI-generated code securely.
