Role summary:
The Director, Global Communications, leads the development and execution of comprehensive media and digital strategies to enhance Walmart's reputation and support business objectives. This role provides strategic counsel to leadership, manages corporate messaging, and oversees media relations to ensure consistent and meaningful communication. The position requires collaboration across teams to align messaging with business priorities, evaluate communication effectiveness, and respond to emerging issues. The Director also fosters strong external partnerships and drives initiatives that uphold the company's values while advancing its global communications goals.
About the team:
The Walmart Local Communications team helps share Walmart's story in the communities it serves. Working closely with stores, associates, and local leaders, the team handles media inquiries, supports projects and campaigns, and plays a key role developing and sharing Walmart's story locally. The team also helps manage critical issues to ensure timely, accurate communication. Through this work, Local Comms builds trust, protects Walmart's reputation, and strengthens relationships with customers, associates, and community partners, supporting Walmart's commitment to transparency and meaningful community engagement at the local level.
What you'll do:
Develop and implement media and digital strategies to enhance corporate and business unit communications.
Situational monitoring and evaluation, identifying opportunities and risks to protect and elevate Walmart's reputation.
Advise senior leadership on strategic messaging, incorporating stakeholder feedback and legislative changes.
Serve as a key spokesperson, ensuring accurate and sensitive communication with media and external partners.
Collaborate cross-functionally to maintain consistent messaging and align communications with business objectives.
Lead resource allocation and media measurement initiatives to optimize communication effectiveness.
Foster relationships with journalists and external stakeholders to support proactive media engagement.
What you'll bring:

Proven ability to influence and advise senior leadership on strategic messaging and public relations matters.
Strong expertise in managing corporate reputation through proactive media relations and crisis communication.
Demonstrated skill in collaborating cross-functionally to ensure consistent and effective communication.
Ability to analyze business objectives and stakeholder feedback to develop targeted messaging frameworks.
Experience leading teams and fostering talent development aligned with organizational values and goals.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Minimum Qualifications...

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business, or related field and 5 years' experience in public relations, communications, or relevant area OR 7 years' experience in public relations, communications, or relevant area.
2 years' supervisory experience or experience leading cross-functional teams.
