Click here to see an inside look at the Criminal Investigation Division.About the Division:The Unclaimed Property Division is responsible for administering the stateand#8217;s unclaimed property program and returning abandoned property to its rightful owners. To accomplish this objective, division staff receives and processes property reports from holders; provides information and assistance to claimants; verifies and processes claims, evaluates data for system implementation and manages the contract audit and voluntary disclosure programs. Owner outreach efforts include posting available properties on two online searchable databases (ClaimItTexas.gov and Missingmoney.com) and owner notice mailings.Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week with occasional evening, weekend hours and holidays. Hours may change based on business need.
Qualifications: Minimum QualificationsEducation:Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelorand#8217;s degree.Preferred Education:Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelorand#8217;s degree in accounting, finance, business or marketing.Experience:Four years of customer service experience.
Three years of experience responding to customer telephone and email inquiries.
Minimum six months Unclaimed Property experience.
Experience using Onbase software.Preferred Experience:Experience at a brokerage firm or interpreting and classifying securities statements.SubstitutionsOne additional year of full-time qualifying experience with providing customer service via telephone, email or face- to-face may substitute for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education with a maximum of 120 semester hours (four years).Summary Of Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. You will also receive critical/emergency calls/texts on your cell phone to ensure immediate communication.In this role:You will be performing complex (Journey-level) claims examination work in the Research and Correspondence Section of the Unclaimed Property Division. Work involves researching and responding to written correspondence and handling claimant telephone inquiries. Involved in initial stages of processes for claims generation, receipt and processing. Involved in claim determination. May train others and serves as a subject matter expert for section processes. May perform quality control on approved high-value claims. May perform quality assurance checks on work performed by others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Duties include:Responding to email, letter, telephone inquiries, and web requests from claimants. Researching and generating claims based on written correspondence and telephone inquiries. Conducting research on numerous property @types, including but not limited to banking accounts, money orders, official checks, traveler cheques, insurance policies, earnest money, and escrow accounts. Submitting requests for documentation to claimants.
Being responsible for section processes and duties as assigned, including but not limited to assignment, separation, classification, and indexing of electronic and physical correspondence, and tracking/monitoring section logs
Reviewing, editing, and determining the validity of unclaimed property claims. Processing and deciding various @types of claims as assigned, including but not limited to owner, power of attorney, minor, and guardianship. Processing, examining, editing, and updating claimed properties; documenting actions; and monitoring claims for completion of subsequent actions, including quality control review.
Communicating status and progress of activities and workload inventories and recommending resolutions for reported problems. Keeping supervisor informed of significant problems or errors and their causes. May be representing the section/division in meetings and in planning sessions. Providing requested written information in a clear and concise manner consistent with division and agency guidelines.
