Serves as a Recruit Training Instructor, which involves planning, coordinating, organizing, and instructing recruit school course and operations. Assists in administrative duties to maintain and ensure efficiency and quality. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Oversee and supervise the Recruit School programs, services, and activities.2.Provide instruction and training in areas such as, but not limited to, Basic Peace Officer Courses, drill and ceremony, classroom etiquette and operations, and cafeteria etiquette and operations.3.Plan and direct training to support the program.4.Monitor the recruitsand#8217; progress, document results, and/or recommend remedial or corrective actions.5.Maintain accurate and timely records on recruits to support agency responsibilities and requirements; to include but not limited to, workerand#8217;s compensation, Veteranand#8217;s Assistance Benefits, employee time, and missed training.6.Maintains liaison with appropriate personnel and entities to collect and share relevant information7.Administers first aid in emergency situations, and contacts friends or relatives of deceased or injured individuals as needed.8.Answers inquiries pertaining to legal, policy, or procedural information.9.Plans and participates in safety programs.10.Provides guidance and leadership development to Recruits to improve their knowledge, skills, and operational effectiveness.11.Performs routine maintenance and servicing of assigned fleet vehicles, prepares activity, auto, mileage, repair, and gasoline consumption reports.12.Trains consistently with issued weapons and equipment and maintains all equipment in proper condition.13.Maintains proficiency in use of force tactics and uses appropriate force to avoid injury to self and others; trains consistently.14.Assists in administrative duties to maintain and ensure efficiency and quality.15.May conduct firearms training.16.May provide guidance to others.17.Respond to emergency situations, includingbut not limited to providing traffic direction, patrol security, shelter security, rescue, and humanitarian aid to local communities during natural disasters.18.Oversee the work of others. Qualifications: GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: Education and#8211; High school diploma or equivalent is required. Graduation from the Department of Public Safety Training Academy. Satisfactory service after graduation from the Training Academy. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, corrections, criminology, police science, or a related field is generally preferred.Experience and#8211; Must be a retired commissioned officer who has retired from the Employees Retirement System of Texas and whose last position was as a commissioned officer within the department and attained the rank of Trooper or higher.Licensure and/or Certification and#8211; Must have or obtain a Basic Instructor Certification issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Must have Texas a Department of Public Safety Recruit Training Instructor Program Certificate or the ability to obtain one within twelve (12) calendar months. Must have or obtain a Class B Bus License within (2) calendar months.Regulatory knowledge and#8211; Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. Law Enforcement Knowledge - Knowledge of police methods, traffic and criminal laws and regulations, Departmental policies and procedures, safety rules and regulations, and court systems and procedures. Ability to use and care for weapons, firearms, radar and radio equipment, and breath test instruments; to use appropriate physical and defensive tactics; to administer first aid; to operate law enforcement vehicles; to communicate effectively; and to provide guidance to others.Supervisory/Managerial/Leadership skills and#8211; Knowledge of management/supervisory methods and principles, performance/productivity standards, and fiscal/budget management.
