Roles & Responsibilities:
As an Early Career Systems Engineer at MITRE, you will have the opportunity to leverage and grow your systems engineering expertise as you contribute to real challenges across a variety of domains.
As part of the Systems Engineering Innovation Center or MITRE's National Security Sector, you will develop your skills while delivering impactful solutions to address the challenges of our sponsors.
In this role, you will:
Apply systems engineering principles and practices to support the development, deployment, and lifecycle management of complex systems.
Contribute to requirements engineering, system architecture and design, trade space analysis, and test and evaluation activities.
Leverage Digital Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) techniques, tools, and frameworks to enhance engineering efficiency and effectiveness.
Support the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) into systems engineering processes and solutions.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve problems across the system lifecycle, from concept development to system sustainment.
Participate in the development of innovative methodologies to address emerging challenges in systems security, resilience, and adaptability.
Engage in human-centered design approaches to ensure solutions deliver meaningful value to end users.
You will gain experience with one or more of the following:
Digital Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and frameworks (e.g., SysML, Cameo, DOORS).
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques and their application to systems engineering.
Advanced test and evaluation methodologies, including test automation and model-based testing.
Agile and DevSecOps practices for systems development and delivery.
Systems analysis and trade studies to support decision-making under uncertainty.
Systems security engineering to deliver trustworthy and resilient solutions.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, related field, or equivalent combination of related education and work experience
Practical knowledge of or more of the following Systems Engineering lifecycle areas: requirements management and analysis, systems architecture and design, system or mission-level trade studies, system test and evaluation, and system security engineering
Ingenuity in applying and tailoring systems engineering best practices and analysis skills with an ability to adapt and learn new subject matter domains
Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain DoD clearance
This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adapted to a variety of audiences
Proficiency in one or more of the programming languages for systems innovation, quantitative analysis and prototyping (ex. Python, MATLAB, R, Java, C++)
Proficiency with one or more modern system engineering design methods (e.g. OOSEM, ME), languages and frameworks (e.g. SysMLV1, SysMLV2, UAF) as well as tools (e.g. Cameo, DOORS) that are used across the systems lifecycle
Proficiency with multi-disciplinary digital engineering, digital twin, and modeling and simulation techniques at the physics-level, engineering-level and/or socio-technical-level)
Knowledge and experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques and algorithms
