As a Sr. Principal AI Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in shaping the technical vision, providing leadership in AI software development, AI platform initiatives, and identifying reusable foundational services to accelerate AI application development. Leveraging your AI expertise, competitive intelligence, and deep customer knowledge, you will drive the conception, evaluation, and design of cutting-edge Industrial AI Service offerings.
A strategic understanding of AI design choices, including their timing and rationale, will be essential as you help define critical design areas early in the development process. You'll spearhead new ways of thinking across business units to significantly improve quality, engineering productivity, and responsiveness to feedback and evolving priorities. This role demands the integration of LLMs, agent workflows, NLP, computer vision, and predictive analytics to engineer secure, high-availability, and cost-efficient AI-based solutions.
Your ability to tailor communication to diverse audiences and perspectives, alongside anticipating issues to proactively prevent conflict, will be invaluable. We expect you to expertly select appropriate internal or external technologies, incorporate cutting-edge research, and craft designs that are reusable across multiple teams. A keen judgment of effective AI practices is paramount. You will collaborate closely with product, data science, and engineering leaders, as well as business executives and CIOs. Furthermore, you will mentor teams, elevating standards in AI development, testing, security, and documentation. Job Description
Responsibilities
Influence AI strategy, direction and policy. Guide AI software development and technical vision across products and solutions.
Lead cross-team initiatives with product and data science.
Design agent workflows, RAG architecture and develop approaches to develop custom LLMs with specific domain data.
Represent GE Vernova as a subject-matter-expert with partners, vendors and customers.
Apply your knowledge of AI trends to develop new practices. Review business requirements and help the team understand trade offs.
Establish AI cost management, monitoring, and security standards.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field
15+ years of programming experience in a relevant language using modern languages (Python preferred, Java, Node.js or Go)
Proven experience designing and deploying production GenAI applications that use large language models at scale.
Experience with vector databases (e.g. Milvus, Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector) and advanced embedding model optimization in production applications
Expertise with multiple LLM providers, advanced AI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, custom frameworks) and creating custom agents.
Extensive experience leading technical teams, creating technical strategy, and providing technical mentorship
Expert-level experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and advanced containerization (EKS)
Familiarity with best practices for responsible AI, including data privacy, bias mitigation, and model monitoring.
Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, a sense of ownership and drive.
Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
18+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including architecture design, technical leadership, and large-scale system optimization
Advanced understanding of enterprise RAG architectures, semantic search optimization, and conversation memory management at massive scale
Experience with multi-modal AI integration, model fine-tuning, and deployment of custom AI models
Experience with AI observability tools, cost optimization strategies for different AI application @types, and performance monitoring at enterprise scale
Experience with cross-organizational collaboration and communicating technology strategy across a variety of stakeholders.
Experience with technical strategy development and technology roadmap planning

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $164,400.00 and $274,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
