LEAD = Leadership, Expertise, and Accelerated Development
Over the course of this 10-week paid internship, you will learn from the industry's best while working on substantial projects with real world implications. These projects will often expose you to some of the most exciting emerging technologies and trends including cloud computing, machine learning, cyber security, technical project management, and agile software development (just to name a few). Our summer internship also includes career development opportunities, team building challenges, exposure to real-world technology applications, and executive mentorship. Upon completion of your internship, you may be extended an opportunity to join the full-time LEAD IT rotational program!
Internship Structure:
Internship assignments are 10 weeks long and take place in person at one of our core locations (Pittsburgh, PA or Chicago, IL).
Internship assignments and their respective locations are determined based on business need and interviewer's assessment. Applicant preference is also taken into consideration.
The internship provides significant exposure to Enterprise IT and technology leaders at Wabtec.
Minimum Requirements:
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's Degree program at an accredited university or credentialed software accelerator program
Degree focused in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, IT Security, Informatics, Information Science/Technology, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, Security and Risk Analysis, or other relevant STEM majors with Software/IT experience
Minimum cumulative or in-major 3.0/4.0 GPA
Must commit to working full time (40 hrs/wk) during the internship
Must be a rising junior or senior with expected graduation between December 2026 - June 2028
Open to applicants legally authorized to work in the U.S., without the need for current or future work status authorization or visa sponsorship for employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Prior internship, co-op, or research experience in IT, software, or related area
Strong analytical skills
Commitment to a career in technology with a passion and aptitude for both software and information technology
Up-to-date with current industry standards, trending software, and information technology development tools
Solves technical challenges through regular application of common design patterns and identifies appropriate patterns for use in problem solving
Ability to learn quickly and successfully navigate in a fast-paced environment
Proactively learns new tools and identifies opportunities for improvement and promotes their adoption
Contributes to creative solutions and challenges the status quo
Strong customer focus, ability to understand the value proposition for the customer, and commitment to deliver the best value proposition
Able to engage positively across multiple departments to establish clarity, vision, and mutual trust to achieve business goals
Demonstrated program / project management skills working on and leading teams
Leadership experience inside and/or outside the classroom
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate technical problems in
clear and simple terms

Relocation assistance/reimbursement may be provided for those who qualify
Our hourly rates for summer internships range from $20 to $33/hr. The actual hourly rate is based on a matrix determined by your year in school/graduation year and your major. To qualify for the masters rate, you will be required to provide proof of your undergraduate degree and date of graduation as well as enrollment in an accredited university masters program for the Fall 2026.
