Who will you be working with?
You'll be joining Wabtec Bus Solutions, a team driving innovation in Transit Bus & Rail systems, including passenger door systems, wheelchair lifts & ramps, e-Bus charging systems, driver's protective barriers, and more. We blend technical expertise with deep product knowledge to deliver high-impact solutions for our customers and communities.
How will you make a difference?
As an engineer within Wabtec Bus Solutions, you will support the design and development focused on a mix of door systems, wheelchair lifts/ramps, windows, driver's barriers, charging products, and other bus-related product lines. Reporting to the Engineering Manager or Supervisor, and sometimes working under guidance of senior engineers, you will design and develop mechanical based components and assemblies, assist in product development, and help ensure compliance with engineering standards. This role is ideal for engineers looking to deepen their technical skills and operate within a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
What do we want to know about you?
We would like to know if you meet the following criteria:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
3+ years of relevant experience
Basic project management skills (scopes, plans, & costs)
Experience supporting development of mechanical based systems in transportation
Familiarity of mechanical design of systems and components including engineering & manufacturing principles, practices, and procedures
Basic problem-solving skills
Familiarity of NPD Stage Gate, DFMEA, Problem Solving Techniques, DFM/DFA, Engineering Analysis, & Hand Calculations
Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar
Organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently on defined tasks and collaborate effectively

What will your typical day look like?
Assist in developing mechanical systems, including components and subassemblies
Create and revise detailed drawings, layouts, and schematics
Contribute to innovation & patents
Support senior engineers in designs, DFMEAs, and validation testing
Participate in proto@type builds and test planning
Analyze test results and recommend design improvements
Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain for DFM/DFA alignment
Contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues
Maintain clear documentation and communication across teams
Support field service and sales teams in resolving technical issues
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and team-based problem-solving
What about the physical demands of the job?
Primarily office-based work
Use a computer for extended periods
Occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds
Stand, walk, and navigate facilities
Occasional travel (10%) to customers and manufacturing sites
Ability to assist in building, testing, and inspecting electro-mechanical systems in lab or field environments
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary rate for this role is currently $60700-83400 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include annual bonus, if eligible.
