GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We are now seeking a full-time Engineer II located in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position develops, refines, and reviews highway construction plans for contract bidding with minimal oversight.
Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range, but still true to the history of the Old West. The city offers nearby access to mountain biking, skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Wyoming is one of only nine states with no state income tax.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
Develops and checks contract plans and documents
Establishes vertical and horizontal roadway geometry and cross-sectional elements necessary for various @types of roadways using the department's computer-aided design and drafting software
Calculates and refines excavation, embankment, and haul quantities
Designs and details other roadway features such as guardrail installations, culverts & drainage ditches, storm sewers, and pedestrian facilities
Ensures the designs and plans meet technical and policy requirements, State statutes, and Federal regulations, and recommends approval or suggests modifications
Calculates and summarizes pay quantities for contract bidding purposes
Issues intermediate plan sets and reviews the plans at inspections with other WYDOT Programs, writes inspection reports, and presents the plans at public meetings
Responsible for project documentation
Guides the design and drafting tasks of employees
Trains, coaches, and mentors engineers and technicians
Travels for field inspections and meetings, with overnight stays as necessary
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to candidates with a working knowledge of the WYDOT Road Design Guide, AASHTO Greenbook, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, and ADA Guidelines for Accessibility.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of current principles of highway engineering
Knowledge of current design and detailing policies and procedures for the work unit
Knowledge of computer applications for design, detailing, and office automation
Knowledge of Federal, State, and local rules and regulations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)
Experience:
0-3 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Engineer I.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Engineer in Training (EIT) License or Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) Required.

Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus
Temporary employees accepting a full-time position
Acceptance of a permanent full-time non-exempt/exempt position posted for public recruitment
Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public
One year of service to WYDOT must be completed; failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
