DESCRIPTION OF WORK As an intern, you will be stationed at the Lackawanna State Park office and the pool, where you will support the Environmental Educator in delivering presentations. Your role will involve coordinating recreational and educational activities to maximize facility usage and engaging with visitors both in the office and on-site to provide exceptional customer service, ensuring they have a memorable experience. You will also gain insights into law enforcement practices within State Parks, including the application of the Crimes Code, Vehicle Code, and Fish and Game laws, while helping to uphold park rules and regulations.

Additionally, you will collaborate with park staff on managing natural resources, assist with special events and volunteer coordination, and support environmental education programs. Participation in park and swimming beach inspections will be required, along with the completion of written reports. You will need to wear personal protective equipment as necessary and may operate a state vehicle to travel between various parks, with the possibility of undertaking other special projects as needed.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time internship that will run from 5/1/2026 through 8/28/2026 Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch. This position may require evenings and weekends, not to exceed 37.5 hours a week. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements: Current full-time enrollment in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree or advanced degree program in one of the following majors: Parks and Recreation Wildlife Management Environmental Science An approved major course which includes a qualifying 24 credit hours of study in the physical, biological and environmental sciences may be acceptable. Freshman year completed by May 2026 Good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher) Pennsylvania residency or enrollment at a Pennsylvania college or university

Additional Requirements: You must possess a valid driver's license which is not under suspension. You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements: In accordance with Act 153 of 2014, this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks within 10 days of hire.
