What Success Looks Like In This Job
This is a skilled to semi-skilled labor position involving light and heavy equipment operation, construction, and mechanical work of a primarily physically demanding nature. Work involves responsibility for performing a variety of tasks with a major emphasis on irrigation maintenance and general parks maintenance duties.
Examples of Duties for Success
Repairs, maintains, and inspects all irrigation valves and irrigation mainlines within the County's parks and public grounds on a scheduled basis.
Assists with installation and maintenance of irrigation pumps.
Locates irrigation wires and mainlines for contractors.
Maintains computerized irrigation systems within the County's parks and public grounds on a scheduled basis.
Assist in the maintenance of the Riverdale Regional Park potable water system.
Digs trenches for irrigation repair work.
Monitor and maintain records for ditch water rights.
Performs a variety of construction related projects.
Repairs permanent structures in the parks.
Performs snow removal at public facilities.
Performs horticulture duties such as tree pruning, landscaping, etc.
Maintains playgrounds.
Removes trash and litter from parks and public grounds.
Cleans shelters and rest rooms.
Performs duties of Parks Maintenance Worker as needed or necessary.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications for Success
Knowledge of the equipment, material and practices used for irrigation and installation.
Basic knowledge of computerized irrigation systems.
Knowledge of applicable safety rules and procedures.
Knowledge of traditional and two-wire system installation and maintenance.
Knowledge of central control irrigation systems (e.g. Rainbird Maxi-Com)
Will be required to drive County vehicles.
Ability to operate light and heavy equipment.
Ability to direct and set an example for a small group of seasonal employees in the accomplishment of a specific task.
Ability to attend educational classes in turf management, irrigation, and landscape construction.
Work independently with minimal supervision and complete tasks in a timely fashion
Operate light and heavy equipment such as trucks, tandem axle dump trucks, tractors, backhoe loaders, horticultural hand tools and associated landscape equipment.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Assist with special event operations.
More Qualifications for Success
Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years irrigation experience, including understanding of water conservation methods.
Computerized irrigation system experience preferred.
Education and Training: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
License or Certificate:
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Commercial Driver's License (Class B) with tanker endorsement.
Certified Cross-Connection Control Technician Certification preferred.
Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
Other:
Candidates must provide proof of a safe driving record at the time of interview and must maintain a safe driving record for continued employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Essential duties require the following physical abilities:
The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift and/or move 100 pounds.
Work Environment:
This position requires frequent exposure to all @types of weather conditions.
This position requires exposure to noise, outdoors, confined work spaces, electrical hazards, vibrations, chemicals, dust and mechanical hazards
Special Requirements:
Availability for on-call and stand-by call.
This position requires shift work, on-call and nights/weekend shift work.
Ability to respond during an emergency or during extreme weather events including wind, rain, snow or ice.
Assist in the preparation and operation of the Adams County Fair and other special events as assigned.
