DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Harborview's gift shop offers patients, families, visitors and staff a wide selection of merchandise that includes balloons, flowers and plants, jewelry and accessories, clothing, home decor, stationery, greeting cards, gift bags, toys and plush. We also sell newspapers and postage stamps.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
This position is responsible for the management of the Gift Shop at Harborview Medical Center. The Gift Shop is an independent program that is managed by the medical center and provides retail merchandise for patients, visitors, and staff. The position is accountable for specialized tasks including managing operations to meet or exceed financial goals, identifying customer profiles and purchasing patterns, defining and selecting appropriate merchandise, creating displays, leading service staff, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. The position is independently responsible for the daily management of the Gift Shop.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and implements budgets and plan for the Gift Shop program to support UW Medicine's mission for quality patient care and satisfaction. Helps create a healing environment for patients that compliment the highest standards in patient care. Manages programs to create an environment that enhances the quality of work life for staff. Promotes principles of Patients are First.
Creates marketing and merchandising strategies to optimize the financial viability of the Gift Shop and retail program. Researches new products and vendors to create intrigue, toinspire, and to provide for needs of customers. Tracks and trends and innovations in retailing. Recommends and develops new merchandise and use of logos to promote and support branding interests of Harborview Medical Center and UW Medicine. Ensures compliance with Brand Guidelines, screens mock-ups and communicates with Gift Shop.
Maintains the integrity of the store in a visually appealing, clean, and organized manner that is both inviting and promotes sales. Creates displays using principles of merchandising while applying creativity. Identifies categories of merchandise to meet the interests of the customer profile. Reviews layouts and proposes and implements revisions to the physical layout and furnishings.
Manages processes for cash handling and record keeping. Monitors and verifies accuracy of sales and receipts. Ensures timely payment to vendors. Ensures timely reorders, maintains strong inventory controls, and stock rotation. Conducts routine physical inventories in an accurate and timely manner. Analyzes reports and develops goals based on sales, losses, and inventories on-hand. Manages electronic systems, hardware, and generation of reports. Seeks ways to increase efficiencies.
Manages staff; assigns responsibilities, prepares schedules, coaches, creates goals, and assists as needed. Ensures staff complete mandatory trainings in a timely manner. Provides training regarding systems, customer service, etc. Interviews, hires, and evaluates the performance of assigned staff. Rounds with staff monthly and provides stoplight reports. Ensures sales team is knowledgeable about new products, promotions and responsibilities. Serves as a role model for customer service and patient relations in the medical center.
REQUIREMENTS
Three years of experience in gift shop management with annual sales exceeding $800,000
Advanced training and/or experience with best practices and technical operations of a gift shop
Demonstrates management skills including buying, merchandising, personnel management, customer service, financial and inventory controls
Strong organizational skills, computer skills
Proficient in conflict resolution
Proven experience in providing outstanding customer service and for maintaining relationships that are exceptionally and equally respectful to all
