Enviro Engineer VI - Public Drinking Water Program

Overview

The Public Drinking Water Program is seeking an Environmental Engineer who is passionate about protecting public health through safe and reliable drinking water. You will join a collaborative team of engineers and scientists reviewing and providing input on projects from planning through permitting. You will be working closely with internal programs-Operations, Compliance, Capacity Development, and Water Resources-to help communities implement sustainable, resilient drinking water projects in compliance with the Water Supply Rule.

You have a keen eye for detail when reviewing projects involving

water sources, storage, transmission, distribution, pumping, and treatment systems.

You thrive in a multidisciplinary environment-discussing hydraulics,

treatment chemistry, funding, public health, and environmental justice.

You value collaboration and communicate clearly with both internal

teams and external partners.

You\'re patient and supportive when providing technical and

regulatory assistance to water systems and their consultants.

You\'re self-motivated, take initiative, and care deeply about

making a difference.

Demonstrated experience and strong understanding of drinking water

planning, treatment, and distribution.

The ability to critically review engineering drawings,

specifications, hydraulic analysis, and preliminary engineering reports with attention to detail.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with sound judgment

and professional tact.

Interest in professional growth-we actively support pursuit of

engineering licensure, training, and collaborative opportunities.

\ The Agency of Natural Resources and Drinking Water Program offers:

A hybrid work model with two days of telework possible from your

productive home office.

Field site visits to observe construction and operation of water

systems.

\ Vermont offers a comprehensive benefits package valued at approximately 30% of total compensation, along with flexible scheduling and a strong commitment to work-life balance. Overtime is rarely required and always compensated.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.
