Business Development Manager

DUTIES:

Work within the Business Development Office, which sources and establishes partnerships across academic scientists, clinicians, venture capital groups, and biotech leaders to translate early-stage scientific discoveries along the commercial development path.

Evaluate the foundational science of each licensable asset against the gaps in scientific data packages necessary for regulatory approval, existing or competing platforms in development, and addressable market.

Implement organization-wide commercialization partnering efforts and strategies.

Work closely within assigned academic researcher portfolio to track research updates, pipeline development, and to summarize partnering efforts. Grow industry network and outreach efforts via partnering and scientific conferences, targeted marketing, and industry site visits.

Prepare written summaries and presentation materials describing available technologies and conduct outbound email outreach to identify potential external partners. Attend major partnering and scientific conferences to maximize and drive deal flow.

Coordinate commercial diligence efforts with industry partners, including compiling diligence materials and hosting site visits/events.

Liaise with industry partners, investors, and Fred Hutch spinouts to maintain relationships and provide on-going support.

Identify new opportunities for internal Fred Hutch departments across shared resources and in the clinical setting.

Present information and updates to senior internal and external stakeholders, including institutional leadership, scientific experts, and representatives from industry, as part of regular communication and partnership efforts.

Assist with managing and supervising 2-4 part-time interns in the Business Development Fellows program, overseeing commercial assessments completed by fellows (scientists) on new invention disclosures and special projects.

This role will often require travel over weekends and will involve participation in events or completion of work-related responsibilities during evening or weekend hours, as necessary.

Telecommuting permitted within normal commuting distance of Seattle, WA, with in-person attendance at the worksite required 1--5 days per week as needed to perform job duties, including meetings, site visits, and team collaboration.

Up to 20% travel, including 2--3 international trips annually.

REQUIRES:

PhD in Life Science discipline, such as Genetics, Developmental Biology, or a directly related field, or the foreign degree equivalent;

1 year of experience enabling advanced therapeutic modalities and models in fields such as gene therapy, cell therapy, or targeted biologics, gained through academic research, life sciences consulting, or commercialization work;

1 year of experience working within an academic or research institution;

1 year of professional experience in biotechnology or pharma business development, consulting, competitive intelligence, technology management, or strategic analysis, including 1 year of experience in each of the following:

Managing multiple projects and stakeholders across cross-functional teams in a fast-paced or matrixed environment. Conducting qualitative and quantitative research in life sciences or healthcare settings, including stakeholder interviews, surveys, or literature reviews.

Assessing scientific or clinical innovations for commercial potential, including analysis of market trends, competitive landscape, or unmet need.

Working independently with oversight from management Including experience supervising or mentoring junior team members such as interns or fellows.
