About the Department:
The Construction Division at INDOT is primarily responsible for managing and executing the agency's multimillion-dollar contracts for preventive maintenance and new construction of INDOT's facilities (i.e. roadways, bridges, culverts, and traffic signals). Our mission-driven, service-led team accomplishes this by overseeing all phases of the construction contract and progress to ensure contractors deliver a quality product that conforms to plans and specifications. Role Overview:
We are currently seeking motivated engineers to join our team in performing consultant inspection services for INDOT Construction contracts. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and we welcome applications from recent graduates through licensed professional engineers.
Engineer Trainee:
A Professional Engineering license is not required for this position. Candidates who have an Engineering degree and a current Engineer in Training license (EIT), but do not hold a professional license, may be hired at a lower minimum salary and are eligible for promotional increases upon achieving milestones including years of experience and obtaining their Professional Engineering license. Upon obtaining a Professional Engineer license, the salary traditionally starts at an annual salary of $75,010 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:
The essential elements of the job duties:?
Delegate and coordinate work assignments for construction technicians and surveyors.?
Coordinate the sampling and testing of aggregates, steel, asphalt, soils and all other materials. ?
Make recommendations to management related to change order.?
Respond to inquiries from local public officials, news organizations and other interested parties.?
Ensure that both INDOT and contractor employees are performing work in a safe manner in compliance with OSHA and other applicable standards, and reports deficiencies to appropriate office.?
Maintain all files related to project in an orderly and usable manner.?
Supervise preparation of final construction records, examines and approves contractor requests for payment.?
Attend preconstruction and partnering meetings as INDOT representative.?
Meet with affected property owners in the project area and works to resolve access restriction issues, drainage problems and other issues that may arise during construction.?
Prepare and maintain daily project records and files, and oversees the work of technicians doing the same, including daily reports of materials placed, locations of work, work interruptions, contractor workforce size and composition, test results, and any other related information.?
Prepare simple field drawings or sketches as necessary to implement and document minor changes to project specifications.?
Prepare and submit a wide variety of documentation to the Final Review Office, and coordinates with the Final Review Office in the project closure process, answering questions and doing research as requested.?
Teach certified technician classes and assist students in preparation for examinations.
Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.?
Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. ?Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

?This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
Registered Professional Engineers license in Indiana required; exceptions may be considered for candidates holding an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification who are actively pursuing PE licensure in Indiana, provided they are applying for a lower-level classification.
Working towards becoming a licensed Professional Engineer in Indiana.
Graduation in an approved engineering curriculum of four (4) years and a year of professional experience in engineering, civil engineering, transportation research, or a closely related field, with demonstrated ability to apply the required knowledge, skills, and competencies in a similar role.
Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.?
Considerable knowledge in computer software programs.?
Broad knowledge in construction material sampling and testing standards and Federal, State, and Departmental established test procedures and standards pertaining to materials.?
Skill in operation, calibration and maintenance of materials testing/sampling equipment.?
Limited knowledge of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Indiana Traffic Management (ITM) and INDOT specifications.?
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.?
Ability to maintain and complete accurate and concise reports.?
Specialized knowledge of, and ability to apply, a variety of Federal, State, and local guidelines, manuals and regulations for purposes of construction inspection for compliance with standards.?
Ability to read and interpret highway and bridge plans and to identify errors and omissions.?
Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.?
Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.?

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
