General DescriptionPerforms accounting work involving maintaining, posting, and balancing accounting and financial statements, records, documents, or reports. Performs highly advanced (senior-level) accounting work. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Examples of Work PerformedPrepare periodic analyses of fund balances and expenditures; and prepare technical reports on estimates, cost data, and budget items.Audit financial documents and ensure compliance with statutes.Review agency accounting records, such as expenditure, fund, appropriation, expense and revenue collection records; and ensure that agency assets are accounted for properly.Performs as agency property manager.Maintain adequate records of expenditures, funds, appropriations, and expenses, as well as revenue collected and deposited.Processes agency payroll.Maintain systems and controls necessary to provide accurate accounts of expenditures and budget balances for agency programs.Monitor ongoing accounting operations and review and audit completed financial records for accuracy and compliance with legal and departmental standards.Analyze and recommend improvements, adaptations, or revisions to the accounting system and accompanying procedures.Coordinate data compilation for financial reports.Perform as agency travel reimbursement coordinator.Produce invoices as needed.Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Required Education and Experience:Experience in accounting and financial operations. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field is generally required.An advanced degree may substitute for one year of experience.At least three (3) years of relevant work experience that was primarily accounting, payroll, travel and/or reporting.Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:and#183; Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems.and#183; Skill in the use of a computer and applicable software.and#183; Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory; to interpret laws and regulations; to work accurately with numerical detail; to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data; and to communicate effectively.Preferred Education and Experience:Knowledge of legal restrictions governing allocation of funds.Preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:Strong knowledge of CAPPS, USAS, Microsoft 365 tools, and Business Objects.Physical Requirementsand#183; Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods throughout the day.and#183; Minimal physical exertion beyond basic office tasks with occasional travel (approximately 5% travel).and#183; Consistent use of office equipment, such as computers, phones, printers, and database systems.and#183; Adequate hand-eye coordination for typing, computer use, and document review.and#183; Ability to perform repetitive tasks efficiently including data entry and record review.and#183; Basic mobility for occasional walking within the office and travel to field locations.Why work at TCOLE?Working for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) empowers you to make an impact on public safety while engaging in continuous learning within a supportive environment.
