Summary About the Position: Serves as an Associate Professor in a Graduate-level course. Upon graduation, the students receive a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies for the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, located in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Responsibilities Plan, refine and assist in presenting approximately 93 graduate semester hours of Physician Assistant education in the Inter-service Physician Assistant Program (IPAP). Develop/instruct graduate classes in fundamentals of clinical medicine and surgery which include human anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, laboratory testing, diagnostic testing, patient dispositions and education and PA professional issues. Provide direct patient health care under established PA scope of practice as agreed upon by the supervising physician and credentials committee of the Military Treatment Facilities. Stay abreast of new procedures, techniques, and information within the Physician Assistant profession through attending professional meetings, scientific conferences, symposia, congresses, and other professional events. Basic Requirement for Associate Professor (Physician Assistant): Education: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Certification: Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification. Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience as a certified Physician Assistant with expertise in clinical pharmacology, human anatomy and physiology. Utilize laboratory and radiological diagnostic testing for acute and chronic medical, surgical and emergent conditions. Provide medical care in Military Treatment Facilities. Evaluate and instruct classes in fundamentals of clinical medicine and surgery. Develop or modify curriculum and instructional content. Review class content and teaching aids on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and materials are still current; communicate written and oral instructions, directives and briefings in order to present recommendations and conclusions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
