Work involves assisting senior engineers, supporting statewide project execution, and facilitating modernization efforts such as firewall upgrades and next-gen network evaluations. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position.https://hr.sao.texas.gov/Compensation/MilitaryCrosswalk/MOSC_InformationTechnology.pdfApplicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.Assist with the design, implementation, and maintenance of local and wide area networks; perform routine performance tuning and capacity checks to ensure network stability.2.Support product evaluations of upgraded or new hardware and software; document findings and escalate recommendations to senior staff.3.Assist with coordinating vendor activities related to network hardware, software updates, and cabling to include fiber infrastructure.4.Maintain the networkand#8217;s physical and logical structures, including connections, cabling, and assigned support software.5.Assist with asset management of equipment to include receiving, inventorying and disbursement of DPS network and telecommunications equipment.6.Assist with migrations to new network operating system levels under the guidance of senior staff.7.Perform routine backups and archival of files stored on the network; support recovery efforts when needed.8.Monitor automated alerts and user reports to identify network issues; troubleshoot and resolve routine to moderately complex problems, escalating as necessary.9.Install, test, and maintain network hardware and software; prepare reports on network utilization and availability.10.Support maintenance of LAN/WAN, Internet, intranet, and cabling installations, as well as track related inventories.11.Provide end-user support, including troubleshooting network access issues and offering basic training in network utilities.12.Document network changes, incidents, and support activities according to agency procedures.13.Participate in agency projects to implement new or revised network services as assigned.14.Adhere to agency standards and procedures governing network operations, performance monitoring, and change management.15.Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.16.Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: Education and#8211; High School Diploma/equivalent required.Experience and#8211; Minimum of two (2) yearsand#8217; experience in local or wide area network work and wireless networks preferred.Substitution Note: Additional work experience of the @type described or other related education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. Licensure and/or Certification and#8211; Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) is preferred. Certifications for Fiber Optic Technicians (CFOT) or comparable certification is preferred.
