This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next

Adjunct Faculty - Speechwho will be all-in on our mission and who will perform duties primarily related to the instruction of courses in Speech. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, online courses, or tech supported classes, and in immediate preparation for respective courses; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; and preparing teaching materials.

This position is filled on an as needed basis, contingent upon institutional needs.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Required:Masters degree in Communications or a Masters degree with at least 18 graduate hours in Communications.

EXPERIENCE:

Preferred:Previous post-secondary teaching experience in Speech or Communications.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Perform teaching activities, including classroom instruction, directing projects, and assisting with student coursework, research and internships.

Plan, develop and present organized classroom instructions and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines.

Teach day and/or evening courses as required.

Develop and create applicable curriculum.

Review examinations, performances and papers.

Prepare syllabus i.e., determine course content that is consistent with the catalogue description.

Use the provided textbooks.

Attend training on procedures, general policy

Attend mandatory training for various procedures and regulations

Complete appropriate administrative paperwork and performance evaluations in a timely manner.

Participate in department, division and college meetings as assigned or required.

Assume responsibility for the orderliness of the learning environment and in the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment.

Perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Exhibit effective teaching in Communication

Knowledge of subject matter and related and/or relevant topics and issues in the discipline

Ability to work with and motivate students.

Ability to demonstrate excellent teaching skills.

Ability to maintain an established schedule, which may include evenings and multiple campus locations.

Ability to work under stress.

Ability to work well with a team or independently.

Excellent oral, written and listening skills, including computer skills sufficient for email, course development and course management.

Must understand and apply learner-centered and high impact instructional methods.

Must be able to deal with people in a professional manner.

Must be able to work with students of diverse backgrounds.

Demonstrate commitment to student success, innovation, collaboration and instructional quality.

Demonstrate and maintain competence in the use of instructional technology.

Educate themselves regarding College policies.

Ensure effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.

Salary:Amarillo College Pay Grades, please review theTEACHING OVERLOAD COMPENSATION and ADJUNCT FACULTY COMPENSATIONchart to view the salary pay scale. This is based on your highest level of education.

Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Working Conditions:Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary).

Work Environment:This job may operate in a classroom, online, or tech supported setting. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as microphones, audio/video-recorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets and fax machines.
