Provide management and leadership to the organization in the development and implementation of food regulatory strategies and processes
Oversee and direct the legal aspects of all FDA, USDA, State Attorneys General, and international regulatory authority related matters
Provide counsel, training and interpretation of current and pending laws and regulations to company personnel and assist as a liaison between the company and regulatory authorities
Oversee legal aspects of all regulatory enforcement actions, filings and communications
Work with the company's R&D team, consultants, outside counsel, and regulatory authorities to review product formulas and obtain necessary approvals for products and claims
Provide practical guidance and recommendations on food ingredient, GRAS, supplement new dietary ingredients, product formulations, labels and usage claims to cross-functional teams to assure compliance with applicable domestic and international laws and regulations
Provide guidance and leadership to the members of the operations, manufacturing, marketing and food safety teams
Direct and support product market adjustments including retrievals and recalls
Advise and participate in complex food law business and legal risk assessment
Counsel business teams on the development and management of the regulatory and quality documentation infrastructure
Oversee and direct the legal aspects of advertising regulatory authority related matters
Review, marketing materials, promotions, websites, social media, and other materials to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
Educate employees and sales representatives on appropriate product claims
Provide regulatory compliance assessments and legal advice with M&A projects and litigation
Advise on food law aspects relating to commercial agreements, including licensing agreements, distributor agreements, supply agreements, and vendor agreements
Keep senior management informed by producing compliance memos, training and reports on legislative and regulatory changes, trends, and proposals both domestically and internationally
Develop strong working relationships with internal departments; learn the business and actively engage with the business teams; and provide solution-driven, practical legal advice
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
JD from an accredited, law school
Licensed in Missouri or other jurisdiction
Minimum of 5-7 years' experience practicing in a law firm or in-house for a dietary supplement or food and beverage company (some in-house experience preferred)
Demonstrated high level risk assessment and root cause experience
Preferred technical life sciences, food science or related background

This is a hybrid role. In-office days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Work from home days are Mondays and Fridays. #LI-hybrid
The pay range for this position is $149,156 - $244,616 per year.
