Job Description
Mount Pleasant Correctional Facilities' mission is Helping People Become Their Best. To accomplish our Mission, the person selected for this position shall be able to demonstrate emotional intelligence, leadership, adaptability and empathy while working with employees, incarcerated individuals and the public.
MPCF is looking to hire a full-time Accounting Clerk 2. This person will manage the financial accounts of incarcerated individuals as well as managing all special reserve accounts. They will coordinate all staff travel and assist with other responsibilities in the MPCF Business Office.
Typical responsibilities of an Accounting Clerk 2:
In-State and Out-of-State Travel Reimbursement Liaison: Maintain accurate working knowledge of State Accounting Enterprise and departmental travel policies in order to complete proper paperwork for employee reimbursement for in-state and out-of-state travel expenses.
I/I Payroll: Working closely with work supervisors, coordinate monthly payroll for incarcerated individuals.
I/I Releases: Complete account balance transfers and gate money for offenders leaving on parole, probation, work release or discharge.
Reserve Accounts: Keep the reserve account check registry updated and checks processed.
Store Orders: Assist with store orders from incarcerated individuals who want to send money out to relatives, order approved items, and put money into outside savings account or purchases for special events and fund raisers.
Kiosk Messages: Respond to kiosk messages from incarcerated individuals regarding their financial accounts and store orders. This involves moving money to and from individuals' savings accounts per instruction.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency and two years of clerical accounting experience which involved the compilation, tabulation, examination, verification or recording of financial, statistical or related fiscal data using elementary bookkeeping principles and practices;
OR
the successful completion of a post-high school vocational/technical, business college, or area community college curriculum in accounting which included concentrated course work equivalent to twenty semester hours (or more) in accounting;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of employment in clerical office work for each year of the required education;
OR
substituting the successful completion of thirty semester hours or the academic equivalent in a post high school Business, Accounting or closely related curriculum for each year of the required experience;
OR
any equivalent combination of qualifying education or experience;
OR
employees with currentcontinuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of twelve months of full-time work as an Accounting Clerk 1 shall be considered as qualifying.
