Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for STEM Positions, Cyber Security & Related Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a computer scientist within the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command Transportation Engineering Agency (SDDCTEA) providing for the system administration of the Agency's analytical Internet/Intranet-based network environments. Responsibilities Provides senior system administration services for Agency analytical and Internet/Intranet-based systems. Monitors ongoing operations of complex network environments supporting large numbers of users within the Agency, Command, and DOD. Plans the design of applications ranging from simple interactive interface documents to large integration efforts providing access to multiple databases. Performs the installation and initial configuration of relevant acquired systems in their operational location and state. Governs the mix, interconnectivity, hardware, and software component selection as a member of a formal Configuration Control Board (CCB). Manages a standardized, routine system of data and system backup, typically through junior IT personnel. Provides high-level technical expertise to accomplish analysis of options and development of the design for advanced systems networks and telecommunications. Basic Requirement for Computer Scientist, GS-1550-13 position: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Administering classified and unclassified network servers to support analytical, knowledge-management, and web-related Agency applications requiring expert-level system oversight; 2) Preparing detailed system specifications, test plans, and interface requirements to support system integration and acquisition actions; 3) Applying advanced computer science principles such as algorithms, data structures, programming concepts, and architectures to assess and resolve mission-critical application issues; 4) Designing analytical and services/web-based system applications to support Agency operational and analytical missions; And 5) Providing high-level technical guidance to leadership on system feasibility, technology options, and risk assessments.
