This role serves as the Global Technical Specialist for Exterior Lighting Systems, focusing on Electronics & Software technical content, strategic development, and process optimization within our global body exterior lighting team.
As the primary global technical authority, you will be instrumental in ensuring the robust design, development, and delivery of all exterior lighting electronics components and software. Key accountabilities include:
Providing technical leadership across the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept to ongoing field support and quality assurance.
Directing global product strategy, including development, verification, validation, and launch activities.
Developing and enforcing foundational documentation to drive recurrence prevention.
Facilitating the creation and consistent application of standardized engineering tools, methods, and execution.

The Global Exterior Lighting Electronics and Software TS is a recognized & accomplished technical expert who can interface with all levels of management & outside activities on exterior lighting systems related matters.
Assist Global Managers, Technical Leaders and Chief Engineers in the identification, resolution & presentation of department technical strategies, objectives, mission & values.
Act as technical architect/specialist for exterior lighting electrical systems and software on a global scale.
Globally responsible for signoffs of electronics and software High Impact Requirements (HIRs) for all application programs at key milestones.
Act as technical resource internally & externally on component & vehicle systems. Provide technical support to global teams.
Recommend, develop & verify applications for new & advanced exterior lighting designs.
Analyze designs during the development process & address any potential failures & error states.
Lead design of new concepts to improve system performance & provide leadership & support for timely implementation.
Monitor & investigate new system technologies to maintain company position as industry leader in this field.

Guide & oversee training, mentoring & provide consulting to department engineers & other interfacing functions.
Support Campaign Prevent for exterior lighting and related systems.
Support Critical Concern Review Group (CCRG) for exterior lighting systems.
Provide technical advice to Automotive Safety Office (ASO) and Office of General Counsel (OGC), as required.
Guide development of modular system tools, methods & processes
Lead development & ongoing maintenance/update of commodity specific standards, specifications & verification methods.
Lead development & deployment of all commodity foundation documents including DFMEAs, SCCAFs, Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, DVP&R & integration manuals.
Lead design reviews based on Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA)
Lead & drive prevent recurrence process.
Ability to share & present work to cross-functional teams and senior leadership.

B.S. in Electrical, Software, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering or other related physical science field of study
10+ years as an Electronics or Software Engineer or similar experience
2+ years' experience with job responsibilities specific to exterior automotive or transportation lighting engineering with focus in systems like exterior lamps, LED's, Bulbs, Reflectors, Projectors, mechanisms, or related electromechanical systems
Demonstrated expert level knowledge and experience in electronics design and software engineering principles and practices, including system architecture, component selection, circuit design (analog/digital), firmware development, embedded systems, communication protocols, design for reliability, and robust testing and validation methodologies.
Experience in all product development phases from Pre-Program through Launch including at least one major program (scale 4-6)
Working knowledge of applicable Design, Analysis, Verification, Quality, Manufacturing, and Assembly methods
Demonstrated improvements in customer satisfaction, reduction in warranty, total cost reduction.
Working knowledge and experience with related Engineering toolsets - Schematic Capture & PCB Layout Software, Circuit Simulation & Analysis Software, FPGA/ASIC Design Tools, CAE / CAD, TCE / 3DX, Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) & Code Editors, Version Control Systems (VCS), Code Repositories / Hosting Services, Debugging Tools (Hardware & Software), Build Automation & Continuous Integration (CI/CD), Testing Frameworks, Documentation Tools (i.e. Atlassian), Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), Firmware Update Tools, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) & Test Automation.

Experience with Global Product Development System (GPDS) and Global Technology Development System (GTDS) processes, timing and delivery requirements.
Experience writing DFMEA's, SCCAF's, Engineering Specifications, Requirements, Design Rules or equivalent Core documents.
Ability to build strong working relationships with all stakeholders including program teams, purchasing, manufacturing, STA & suppliers.
