The Emerging Tech team is passionate about solving customer and associate problems with the newest technologies. The team is responsible for creating breakthrough capabilities, delivering frictionless experiences and making these technologies easily available to thousands of Walmart developers and 2.2 million associates. What you'll do:
Leads the discovery phase of large backend engineering projects by collaborating with cross-functional teams to determine project strategy; interpretingstrategy into sustainable mobile solutions; driving proto@type development to ensure concept is feasible; and implementing proto@types to validate projects.
Troubleshoots business and production issues by reviewing and analyzing information (for example, issue, impact, criticality,possible root cause); engaging support teams to assist in the resolution of issues; analyzing issues based on expert knowledge of mobile devices andprogramming; formulating and implementing an action plan; interpreting results to determine further action; and performing root cause analysis acrossmultiple mobile devices to prevent future occurrence of issues.
Leads project teams for Backend Engineering projects by providing direction regarding project plan; identifying short- and long-term solutions andtimelines; providing guidance regarding project issues or roadblocks; reviewing and approving proposed solutions; implementing new architecturalpatterns; and performing design and code reviews of changes.
Develops innovative technology solutions and strategies to support business objectives by collaborating with cross-functional businesspartners; developing assessments of key opportunities; benchmarking and analyzing industry best practices; forecasting for future technologies;driving high-priority initiatives; identifying and implementing solutions; communicating with and influencing decision-makers and executives within theorganization; influencing the industry to adopt sustainable solutions; and defining software development guidelines, standards, and processes.
Leads medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects for Engineering by collaborating with cross-functional teams to determineproject requirements; translating requirements into solutions for multiple operating systems (for example, iPhone, Android); gatheringrequested information (for example, design documents, product requirements, wire frames); writing and developing code (for example, JavaScript)that can be applied to multiple @types of mobile devices; integrating solutions to ensure they are applicable to multiple operating systems; developinguser interface solutions; conducting testing to ensure solution is functional; communicating project status and roadblocks to team members andstakeholders; determining solutions to issues; enhancing design to prevent reoccurrence of defects across multiple devices; ensuring on-timedelivery; and collaborating with project managers to provide guidance on project implementation plan.
Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating businessplans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuringprogress and adjusting performance; accordingly, developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning.
Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training; mentoring; assigning duties; building a team-based workenvironment; establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations; providing recognition and rewards; coaching for success and improvement; and ensuring belonging awareness.
Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by training and providing direction to others in their use and application; ensuring compliance with them; and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy.
Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with businesspartners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost effectiveness;and participating in and supporting community outreach events.
What you'll bring:
BS/MS in Computer Science or related field
8+ years of software engineering experience in developing services in Java/SpringBoot
4+ years of experience designing, building large distributed systems for high availability and scale
4+ years of experience of developing services using managed servicing public cloud platforms such as Azure, GCP or AWS
3+ years of experience and fluency with relational / no-sql (e.g., MySQL, Cassandra, etc.) databases
3+ year of experience working with Kafka, ActiveMQ, Caches such as Redis or memcached, Elastic Search, Spark and HDFS
Proven understanding of micro-services-oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs
Advanced knowledge of performance, scalability, and system architecture with an eye toward avoiding and reducing technical debt
Practical knowledge of agile software development methodologies (e.g., XP, scrum, agile)
Experience in working with large code bases and effectively driving large projects
Experience in mentoring engineers and influencing other engineers across the organization
Strong oral and written communication skills
Good problem-solving attitude and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in building Digital Asset Management Systems
Experience with 3D assets is a plus
Experience in developing Content Management Systems is a plus
