Description We are looking for a skilled Accountant to join our team on a long-term contract basis in Las Cruces, New Mexico. This position involves a wide range of accounting tasks, including financial reporting, budget analysis, and compliance monitoring. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in accounting principles and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.

Responsibilities:

Prepare and review detailed internal financial reports to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Analyze complex financial statements, contracts, and reports to identify trends and discrepancies.

Create and review journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules for financial accuracy.

Perform calculations for fixed assets and inventory based on established guidelines.

Conduct research and compile comprehensive reports for special projects.

Verify budgets for proper coding and ensure alignment with organizational standards.

Monitor revenues, expenditures, petty cash, and trial balances, reporting any inconsistencies.

Assist in developing improved accounting practices to enhance operational efficiency.

Support the department in maintaining internal controls and ensuring compliance with financial procedures.

Collaborate on audits and prepare necessary documentation, including audited financial statements and reports. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required; advanced degrees are preferred.

Minimum of four years of progressive accounting experience, with a preference for governmental accounting expertise.

Certifications such as CPA, CGFM, or CMA are highly desirable.

Proficiency in managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and budget processes.

Advanced knowledge of financial reconciliation and preparation of monthly financial reports.

Strong analytical skills to evaluate revenues, financial statements, and variance analyses.

Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Must pass a thorough background and credit check.
