Responsiblities
Do you want to be a part of a national security mission that conducts research and development? Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Electrical Engineer to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide diagnostic fielding and development support in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to collaborate in design, development, characterization, and fielding of diagnostics systems on high-stake weapons physics experiments conducted at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experimentation (PULSE) Complex and other facilities located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). This electrical engineer will report primarily to the NNSS Nuclear Enterprise Assurance Counter-subversion program in support of the NNSS. This position will support a wide range of processes, tools and diagnostic equipment to protect the Operational Technologies (OT) employed at the NNSS. This engineering position will develop an understanding of the OT at the NNSS. This OT is a wide variety of diagnostic detection and recording systems, with an emphasis on theory and practical applications of diagnostics systems such as electro-optical and radiographic imagining systems.
Key Responsibilities
Contributes to solutions of assignment-related problems and issues with a moderate scope and of moderate complexity, using a well-defined set of technologies. Solutions use established basic standards, practices and procedures as well as technical knowledge to address problems and complete tasks. Solutions may require evaluation of standards and processes.
Participates in developing field programs and designs using pre-determined principles and practices.
Maintain a current understanding of the immense Operational Technologies (OT) employed at the NNSS.
Develop new processes and tools to monitor and detect possible subversion.
Have a general knowledge of the capabilities of adversaries to subvert these OT systems.
Develop NNSS critical OT inventory process.
Support critical OT inventory efforts at the NNSS.
Support OT systems assessments at the NNSS.
Mentor junior staff at the NEA program.
Interface with NNSS facility managers to schedule NEA actives at the NNSS.
Determine resources and scope of facility assessments.
Performs design and technical analysis activities using prescribed codes and standards, computer software, and generally accepted best management practices.
Frequent coordination of discipline information with other departments within the company and with outside vendors. Works with outside contacts as required to obtain relevant information.
Develops a working knowledge of codes and standards of other disciplines.
Follows established engineering and technical procedures and instructions.
Coordinates work within their discipline on moderately complex projects.
Often serves as a member of work teams.
Mentors less experienced staff in specific discipline.
Defines specifications for procurements and initiates purchase requests.
Monitors work of technicians and other support personnel working on their projects.
Perform other duties assigned by Management.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees
Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor's degree in engineering
Or, for Architects, Certification from the National Council or Architectural Registration Board (NCARB)
Or Professional Engineer license
Plus at least 2 years' relevant experience. Skill building experience must demonstrate either deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge; graduate research experience may be recognized.
Ability to interpret codes and standards within the discipline in which they were hired.
The Primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas (NLV), Nevada, however work may be performed remotely with the contiguous United States, in accordance with Company policy, with travel to NLV and other locations as deemed necessary.
Work schedule for this position will be 4/10's, Monday-Thursday (subject to change).
Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707\14&rgn=div8) , "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Annual salary range for this position is: $81,307.20 - $121,971.20.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
