What You Will Do
Physics Division is looking for a dedicated professional to join our management team as our Staff Operations Manager. Physics Division consists of four groups that function primarily at LANSCE to design, execute, and analyze experiments that challenge, improve, and validate the understanding of fundamental physics underpinning LANL's national security mission.
The Staff Operations Manager (SOM) reports to the Division Leader and serves as a key member of the management team enabling business and operational excellence in support of the Division's mission. The individual will work closely with Physics Division Management to align work assignments of the professional staff with the strategic direction of the Division. The successful candidate will represent Division management regarding administrative and operational subjects. In addition, the successful candidate will engage in strategic planning and make a variety of high-level decisions in areas of delegated authority (e.g., financial oversight and budget management, staffing plan coordination, administering and communicating human resources (HR) requirements).
The SOM is directly responsible for the day-to-day oversight and coordination of the Division's business. This includes:
Research, analysis, and tracking of deliverables and actions
Coordination, communication, and implementation of a wide variety of business and operational functions.
Support the Division Leader in the creation and implementation of strategic business plans.
Research, develop, and recommend priorities and best-practice techniques and methodologies to facilitate business and operational functions that support the mission of the Division.
Ensure functions are compliant with Laboratory policies.
Serve as an executive advisor to Division management and employees on operational and administrative matters where consistency across the Division is necessary for effectiveness, efficiency, institutional compliance, and cost-savings.

Demonstrated supervisory experience with an excellent record of team building, collaboration, and conflict resolution.
Expert knowledge and successful demonstrated experience with the administrative management of business, operational, and/or programmatic activities typically related to at least two of the following areas: safety; security; financial management; HR; communication; government, community, and customer relations; training; or procurement.
Demonstrated experience in effective decision-making and creative problem-solving including skills in researching and recommending alternative solutions to problems.
Expert knowledge of and successfully demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, and managing innovation and process improvements.
Expert skill and proven experience in the preparation of reports, drafting and implementation of new procedures and processes, and preparing correspondence for executive level managers.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel, including networking with key contacts outside of area of professional expertise.
Demonstrated ability to function as a member of a division-level management team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Education/Experience : Position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications :
The ability to achieve organizational objectives through partners and stakeholders.
Proficiency in multiple Laboratory-wide business systems to include Oracle, Time and Labor, Concur, Ariba, iLink Database, MicroStrategy Reports, Performance Management and computer software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
Advanced knowledge of the Laboratory's organizational and governing and implementing policies, procedures, and instructions.
Active Q- Clearance.
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility Requirements : To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test : The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular Position : Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program : Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
