How will you make an impact in this role?
The Finance organization at American Express is seeking a director-level Product Owner to drive the development and delivery of Generative AI (GenAI) capabilities across Finance. This role will play a critical role in shaping how AI technologies enhance decision-making, streamline operations, and create new analytical capabilities across the organization.
As the GenAI Product Owner, you will be responsible for defining and driving the end-to-end product lifecycle - from ideation through implementation - of GenAI-driven solutions that enable the Finance organization to operate with greater precision, insight, and speed.The successful candidate will combine product ownership expertise with strong critical thinking, an understanding of financial processes, and a passion for emerging AI technologies.
This is a highly visible role requiring close collaboration across Finance, Technology, Risk, and other enterprise partners to deliver practical and scalable AI solutions. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the transformation of Finance through innovation and execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the end-to-end product lifecycle, including a role in opportunity identification, prioritization, requirements definition, development, deployment, and measurement of outcomes.
Partner closely with the Finance GenAI Strategy & PMO director, technology teams, and business stakeholders to design and implement GenAI use cases that address key Finance priorities and focus areas.
Translate business objectives and needs into technical specifications and user stories, ensuring alignment between business needs and technical execution.
Collaborate across functions to deliver use cases that meet business objectives while maintaining data integrity, privacy, and compliance standards.
Establish metrics and reporting to measure adoption and continuous improvement of GenAI initiatives.
Stay informed of emerging trends in AI, ML, LLMs, and agentic technologies, and evaluate their applicability to Finance use cases.
Drive innovation and support a test-and-learn culture, helping Finance teams understand and leverage the power of AI.
Build strong relationships with stakeholders across Finance and Enterprise, fostering trust, collaboration, and shared accountability for outcomes.
Thrive in a whitespace environment, identifying new opportunities, building momentum, and influencing across a matrixed organization.
Minimum Qualifications:
7 years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Product Leader with accountability for full lifecycle delivery of digital or data-driven solutions.
Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in unstructured space - driving innovation and defining structure where processes are still evolving.
Strong collaboration and influence skills, with experience working across business and technical teams in a matrixed organization.
Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business terms and communicate effectively with senior leadership.
Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and delivery excellence.
Bachelor's or advanced degree in a quantitative, technical, or business field (e.g., Finance, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or related discipline).
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of, or strong curiosity and learning agility around, AI, ML, and Generative AI technologies (e.g., large language models, natural language processing, and agentic systems).
Financial literacy or direct experience working in Finance, FP&A, or similar analytical domains.

Salary Range: $144,250.00 to $256,250.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
