Summary
Manages financial operations of a business unit or units, coordinating the financial team. This job is a first-level manager within a Site or Corporate office. Provides direct management to semi-skilled and entry-level professional employees performing diverse and/or specialized roles, or employees in more than one function or work group. This includes establishing annual plans/objectives and interpretation of policies related to the functional area. Contributes to policy development. Work is performed within established professional standards and practices. Receives assignments in the form of tasks and goals and follows established processes to meet the goals of the unit. Executes budgets, develops schedules, and enforces policies and procedures. Sound decisions are required to achieve the divisions/departments operations, schedules, and/or performance goals. Provides immediate supervision to employees in more than one function or work group, assigning tasks and checking work at regular intervals. Directs subordinates to achieve assignments using established guidelines, procedures, and policies. Makes employee staffing decisions. Reviews employees performance and recommends employee compensation; coaches for improved performance and disciplines as necessary. Interacts directly with subordinates and peer groups. Builds strong internal and external relationships that require exchanging of information and providing explanations in a problem solving capacity. Implements process improvements. Can negotiate and persuade. Conducts negotiations and manages a desired outcome. Chairs meetings with adequate presentation material. Mentors, motivates and influences others to work toward and achieve team objectives. Communicates a vision passionately. Responsible for planning and prioritizing for other people. Makes a decision based on analysis. Anticipates and initiates changes and make recommendations. Is Able to handle difficult situations in a tactful and diplomatic manner? Can effectively resolve conflict.
Detailed Description
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
Manages financial and accounting staff within the department.
Staffs the department, assigns work, reviews performance and addresses performance issues.
Provides leadership, coaching, and development.
Promotes and maintains a productive work environment.
Develops policies, procedures and business controls to provide work direction.
Manages the audit, compliance and external reporting processes.
Acts as a liaison to federal, state, insurance, banking and other external auditors.
Develops and implements business controls and procedures to minimize or comply with audit recommendations.
Provides information to consultants responsible for external financial reporting.
Provides guidance to management on accounting policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with corporate policies and objectives.
Manages payroll processing for a site or sites.
Ensures accurate and timely paychecks.
Works with the Human Resources department and other to continually develop and improve the process.
Manages special projects and/or external relationships (e.g., travel agency, risk management, etc.).
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
Ability to effectively lead, manage, train and motivate a diverse group of employees
Ability to use some or all of the following PC applications: Word, Lotus Notes, Excel, PowerPoint.
Excellent negotiation and problem resolution skills.
Ability to recommend accounting process changes based on intimate knowledge of accounting processes, policies and procedures. Ability to direct others on accounting practices.
Ability to recommends creative accounting solutions that are in accordance with GAAP of relevant country and U.S. GAAP.
Ability to manage large scale budgeting/forecasting process.
Ability to analyze and summarize key highlights and makes recommendations to management for plan/forecast savings.
Perform financial sensitivity analysis against all key factors (pricing, operating and costing) and provide management with recommendations/solutions.
Makes recommendations based on interpretation of results.
Understands MRP configurations/processes.
Creates basic spreadsheet macros.
Ability to design custom queries in job-related software.
Understanding of the relationships between the various tools.
Understands how to use the political structure in the organization and how to get things done using that structure.
Ability to apply mathematical, statistical and financial operations to complete tasks and solve complex problems.
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external customers and other functions.
Ability to prioritize tasks and complete duties while working with a large volume of detailed information under tight time deadlines.
For non English mother language: Ability to attend and run discussions in English
Ability to manage basic project management techniques
Physical Demands
Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment
Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data
Repetitive manual movements are frequently required (e.g. data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc)
Occasional overnight travel may be required
Typical Experience
Five to seven years of relevant experience
Typical Education
Bachelor's degree, or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
