How will you make an impact in this role?
Global Commercial Services (GCS) is the global leader in providing payments solutions for small, medium and large businesses. To ensure we keep on the leading edge of the dynamic commercial payments landscape, the GCS Strategy, M&A and Alliances team is charged with defining the long-term business objectives and driving strategic opportunities to accelerate revenue growth. The team plays an integral role in defining, developing, and leading new strategies, inorganic growth (M&A), partnership (Alliances) opportunities, as well as managing Annual Investment Planning, Opex, Strategic Engagement Team to accelerate our overall strategy and vision.
This individual will partner with teams such as Control Management, Product, GCO, TLM, and other risk pillars on behalf of the Alliances team, ensuring third-party partners follow AXP (American Express) guidelines and policies. They will drive operational excellence by identifying areas of process and design improvement, while developing clear playbooks and frameworks for consistent execution, strengthening governance and control practices across the partner ecosystem.
The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of third-party risk management, control frameworks, and operational rigor. They will serve as a key liaison across internal stakeholders to ensure risk mitigation, compliance assurance, and audit readiness for Strategic Alliances.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and enhance the playbook for third parties to undergo risk assessments by AXP
Lead cross-functional collaboration across all lines of defense to identify and implement operational improvements in risk management processes
Drive the execution of enterprise control requirements, including RCSA migration, PRSA refresh cycles, and Business Impact Analyses
Lead OpsRisk work streams for SMA, ensuring compliance, alignment and documentation accuracy
Develop and maintain comprehensive TLM and other governance framework process guides, onboarding materials, and training documentation to support consistent risk and control execution
Train the Alliance Management team on third-party management responsibilities, including risk identification, onboarding requirements, ongoing monitoring, control execution, and compliance procedures
Provide audit and regulatory support, ensuring timely and complete responses to Internal Audit, FRB, and other enterprise review bodies
Collaborate with GCO, Data Governance, and InfoSec teams to align partner frameworks with AXP policies and regulatory expectations
Mitigate risk and advise on governance frameworks for new partnerships, market expansions, and product considerations to ensure alignment with enterprise standards and regulatory guidance
Proactively identify and mitigate risks by maintaining strong relationships with Control, Product, and Risk partners
Lead ad-hoc operational projects related to control management, process optimization, and strategic enablement within B2B Strategic Alliances
Support Business Impact Assessments and risk evaluations for Strategy, M&A, and Alliances initiatives
Advise on control integration and continuity planning for new programs or acquisitions impacting the SMA organization
Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstrates strategic thought leadership and intellectual curiosity to proactively see opportunities, anticipate challenges, and provide solutions
Ability to work in a matrixed organization and get results through influence
Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability and comfort synthesizing large amounts of information for senior leadership
Comfortable leading multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Self-starter with initiative, drive, and attention to detail
Critical thinker with the ability to develop a multidimensional action plan that delivers results
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
High proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel; Archer and Process Unity a plus
Knowledge on FinTech companies and market trends

Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits
