Summary You will serve as a NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the Radiological Emergency Planning Division (Code 105.6), Radiological Control Office of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. Responsibilities You will perform engineering duties relating to nuclear accident and radiological accident emergency planning of a complex nature and broad scope. You will develop, prepare and maintain Shipyard procedures for notification of appropriate emergency response personnel, technically assessing emergency radiological conditions, communicate and recommend corrective actions. You will be disseminating information to the public, State and local government agencies, including recommending response roles for Shipyard management and engineering personnel, conducting periodic training of personnel. You will ensure procedures are adequate for minimizing the effects of an accident to the public and the environment. You will review Federal, State and Local government agency emergency response plans to ensure the Shipyard emergency response plans combined with other agencies provide complete and integrated coverage for emergencies. You will carry out engineering evaluation, development and application of new technology which will affect radiological emergency procedures, operations and/or facilities at all Naval Shipyards working on Naval Nuclear Powered ships. You will play a key role in the planning and conduct of major quarterly radiological emergency drills to evaluate the level preparedness and conduct training sessions to train emergency personnel. You will identify the need for new or improved facilities and equipment and oversees subsequent planning, acquisition, funding and construction of the facilities and procurement of equipment, technical specification, and facility layout You will stay abreast of latest requirements and innovations in emergency planning by review of technical papers and regulatory requirements as well as attendance of seminars and training sessions available at universities and other facilities. You will serve as project coordinator, working with other engineering (design. test. operational) personnel to incorporate controls and requirements. Results of the effort of this position affect the emergency preparedness program at this Shipyard. You will be required to perform regular walking and stair climbing to inspect ships. dry docks and facilities, and to conduct oversight of drills to assess response capability and to observe work operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-12 Grade level Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer.
