Calico Corner Line Cook/ Deli Clerk

Purpose

The Calico Corner Line Cook supports the daily workflow and guest experience in our delicatessen-style market. This role combines culinary skill with guest interaction-crafting and preparing ingredients, restocking products, and creating an inviting atmosphere where visitors feel cared for through quality, presentation, and service. This role has been advertised as Grocery Clerk but internally this will be labeled as Line cook in Calico Corner, our deli/market style restaurant.

Key Responsibilities

Product Stewardship

Stock shelves, produce, and retail displays with attention to freshness, rotation, and visual appeal.

Ensure proper labeling, dating, and organization of all retail and deli products.

Source and manage international and specialty items that reflect Calico Corner's culinary identity.

Assist in entering new products and ingredients into the point-of-sale system, ensuring accurate descriptions, pricing, and sourcing details.

Ingredient Knowledge & Guest Experience

Develop an in-depth understanding of charcuterie meats, cheeses, and specialty pantry items-their origins, production methods, and tasting profiles.

Taste and serve products confidently, providing guests with ingredient education and recommendations with warmth and genuine curiosity.

Support cheese-making and other artisan production processes, adhering to food safety and quality standards.

Culinary Preparation & Service

Prepare breakfast and lunch items for Calico Corner's daily service, maintaining consistency, flavor, and visual appeal.

Slice and portion deli items precisely and carefully to order.

Create grab-and-go items for retail coolers that balance freshness, creativity, and efficiency.

Work closely with kitchen and retail teams to ensure smooth service and prompt product availability.

Collaborate actively in a team-oriented environment to accomplish shared goals and support cross-functional initiatives.

Communicate proactively and professionally with team members and managers to ensure alignment, share updates, and resolve issues.

Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance personal growth, improve job-related skills, and contribute to team success.

Perform other duties, tasks, and responsibilities, including as listed in GlassFrog, and support other teams as assigned, which may fall outside the essential duties and responsibilities
