Description of Work Unit
The Clinical Hematopathology Laboratory is within the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. The Laboratory consists of a team of 12 technical staff, 6 veterinarians (including 2 clinical pathologists and 1 anatomic pathologist), 1 research scientist, and 3 - 5 PhD students. The Laboratory is equipped with a cell sorter, two flow cytometers (one spectral), droplet digital PCR instruments, a liquid handling robot, two sequencers and complete cell culture capabilities.
Position Summary
The Clinical Hematopathology Laboratory at Colorado State University is seeking an individual with a DVM / VMD degree for a two-year (renewable) position. Responsibilities will include analysis and reporting of a variety of molecular and cellular assays, with immunophenotyping of small animal hematopoietic malignancies by flow cytometry being the largest proportion of the work. Discussing results with client veterinarians is an important part of this position. Individuals may also carry out clinical research projects such as the production of primary case reports and other kinds of clinical publications as time and interest of the candidate permits. No experience in any of the assays is necessary. Job requirements include an interest in hematopathology, a very strong work ethic and an interest in learning new techniques.
This position is fully in-person with no options for hybrid or remote work. Recurrent laboratory activities include weekly lab meetings, weekly Clinical Pathology rounds, monthly Clinical Hematopathology rounds, and bi-weekly research meetings. There are opportunities for the successful candidate to take courses and participate in national meetings and workshops.
The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by the proposed start date. The department will unfortunately not be able to provide visa sponsorship for this position at this time.
