The Solutions Architect (Program Lead) owns delivery and governance for compute/platform modernization across cloud, data center and server environments, and provides the technical architecture and engineering enablement to operationalize those solutions. This role prioritizes program management-planning, coordination, vendor engagement, and business alignment-while serving as the technical authority on architectures, automation, resilience, security, network integration and identity/access standardization. Senior Engineers retain day-to-day operational responsibility; the Architect mentors and elevates team capabilities.
Scope / Supervision & Interaction
No direct reports required, but provides technical leadership and mentorship to Senior Server Engineers and platform teams.
Regularly collaborates with EMG Corporate Infrastructure, Cloud Engineering, Security, Applications, Procurement, Site Support and business stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities - Program Management (core)
Own end-to-end program delivery for platform initiatives (pilot ? phased rollout): roadmap, milestones, vendor SOWs, risk register, and executive reporting.
Coordinate cross-functional execution (Server, Network, Cloud, Security, Procurement, Site Support) and schedule work during approved maintenance windows (IT Perfect Days).
Enforce change governance (CHG/CAB), stakeholder communications, and capture audit-grade evidence for compliance (CMMC/NIST/CIS).
Drive capacity planning, lifecycle management and spare-parts strategy (EOL/EOS remediation) and prioritize work to reduce operational risk.
Track program KPIs (availability, MTTR, baseline compliance, rollout progress) and escalate blockers with recommended remediation.
Secondary Responsibilities - Systems Architecture, Network Integration & Technical Enablement
Design and validate hybrid cloud and on-prem reference architectures (compute, storage, virtualization, networking, backup/DR) and produce IaC modules, BOMs, and hardened baselines.
Lead network integration workstreams: define switching/routing design, segmentation, NAC integration, telemetry forwarding, and ensure network architectures align with security and automation requirements.
Drive identity and access standardization: define RBAC/PAM patterns, AD/GPO design impacts, group-based access models, and ensure privileged access workflows are auditable and enforce least privilege across platforms.
Lead automation and operationalization: IaC, config-drift detection, automated provisioning, and repeatable recovery/runbooks to reduce manual work.
Perform systems analysis, POCs, performance/capacity modeling, and technical design reviews; own technical acceptance for production cutovers.
Embed security by design: segmentation, NAC/PAM, logging/SIEM, encryption, and ensure architectures support audit evidence collection and compliance.
Mentor Senior Engineers; translate operational patterns into automated solutions and maintain knowledge transfer/runbooks.
Digital Operations & Continuous Improvement (integrated)
Centralize monitoring/observability, incident management (SRE practices), CI/CD for infrastructure changes, and automated evidence capture.
Maintain CMDB accuracy, asset lifecycle, backup/DR validation, and a service catalog/self-service where appropriate.
Implement preventative maintenance and lifecycle policies, coordinate vendor escalations to minimize downtime.
Continuously refine runbooks, automation, and operational metrics to improve resiliency and reduce MTTR.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the primary technical liaison for business owners, application teams, procurement and third-party vendors; lead cross-functional design workshops and executive briefings.
Coordinate pilot validation, operational handoffs, and post-implementation reviews; publish lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.
Deliverables & Acceptance
Reference architectures, IaC modules, deployment runbooks, CHG/maintenance plans, validation test reports, evidence packages, updated CMDB entries, and a KPI dashboard tracking program health.
Standards and playbooks for network integration, identity/access models, and privileged access management that support auditability and compliance.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
8+ years IT experience with at least 3 years in solution architecture or program leadership focused on cloud, data center and server platforms.
Proven experience delivering enterprise hybrid cloud and data center platform programs and integrating networking and identity services.
Hands-on experience with IaC (Terraform/ARM/Bicep), automation (Ansible), virtualization (vSphere/VxRail), backup/DR (Commvault), and NAC/PAM solutions.
Strong program management skills, vendor management, budgeting, and stakeholder communication.
Deep knowledge of security and compliance frameworks (CMMC, NIST, CIS).
Relevant certifications preferred (Azure/AWS Solutions Architect, VMware VCP, CISSP, PMP, TOGAF).
