As the decision science leader that serves across Coffeehouse Design & Development, you will shape the future of our business by forming a clear vision for how data-driven insights will guide decisions and execution across the store lifecycle: Plan, Design, Build, and Maintain. You will inspire and empower a team of talented professionals to innovate, collaborate, and deliver solutions that enable core Coffeehouse Design & Development priorities and steward coffeehouses that inspire, perform, and endure.
As a senior manager, decision science you will...
Lead people: Inspire a team of data analysts and decisions scientists by delivering a clear vision for decision support and leading partners in data modeling while leveraging the Starbucks Values to achieve results.
Manipulate and Model Data: Procure and manipulate large-scale, complex data from a variety of systems (AWS, Azure, Databricks, Alteryx, SQL, Python, etc.). Identify anomalies and data issues and work cross functionally to resolve.
Operationalize and Communicate insights: Effectively present complex technical material to non-technical audiences in an approachable way with insights and implications. Provide analytic validation and application of data to accurately represent the model and promote recommendations into business processes
Collaborate cross-functionally: With colleagues at all organizational levels, understand decision science and advanced analytics and work with data science and data engineering to bring effective decision support solutions to market
Create recommendations and opportunities: Connect opportunities and insights across the enterprise, identify unique opportunities and gain organizational momentum toward vision
Visualize Data: Work under consultative or self-initiated direction to assess and produce relevant, standard or custom information (e.g., reports, charts, graphs and tables) from structured data sources accompanied by skilled communication, data presentation and storytelling
Leads conversations to establish standards and best practices (e.g., version control, coding standards, documentation, storytelling with data, business communication, data sensitivity policies, analytics best practices, engineering best practices) for team
We'd love to hear from people with:
BA/BS or equivalent experience; Prefer BA/BS degree with discipline in Stats, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Quantitative Social Science, or similar
Minimum of 7 years of experience with cloud tech for data and analytics solutions (Azure, AWS)
Minimum of 7 years of experience in Excel, SQL, Tableau / Power BI and Python, R or other advanced analytics scripting language or experimental design platforms
Minimum of 7 years of expertise in data methodologies and skills in accordance with business applicability and insights operationalization
Minimum of 7 years of experience managing a team
Experience managing experts in data analysis and data modeling with proven people leadership and career development experience
Progressive experience in product management, design-thinking, management consulting and/or corporate strategy leading transformation programs and projects
Passion for decision support strategy development and experience working with data scientists in a product development environment
Demonstrated ability to use analytics and optimization tools to inform product planning and prioritization.
MBA or graduate degree in data science or adjacent field highly preferred
Strong Proficiency with SQL, SAS, Python or R
Skilled knowledge of statistics (e.g., descriptive, regression, etc.)
Business experience with several data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
Experience developing and delivering presentations to executive level audiences
Strategic planning or management consulting experience preferred

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
