Overview
Bowhead seeks a System Administrator to join our team supporting NIWC Atlantic. The System Administrator will work directly with the client analyzing complex and unique technical support assignments and collaborate with software engineers, hardware engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and program analysts within a scaled agile environment.
This position is 100% onsite. No hybrid/flex or remote work schedules are permitted for this effort.
Responsibilities
Design, deploy, and maintain server, storage, and network infrastructure to support business operations.
Manage and optimize Windows and Linux server environments (on-premises and cloud).
Oversee Active Directory, Group Policy, identity management, and authentication systems.
Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and user account provisioning.
Perform system updates, backups, and disaster recovery testing.
Monitor system performance and resource utilization to identify and resolve issues proactively.
Support and maintain virtualization environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
Administer cloud environments.
Manage endpoint security, patching, and antivirus solutions.
Implement and maintain IT documentation, asset management, and configuration records.
Collaborate with network and security teams to ensure system reliability and compliance.
Provide Tier 2-3 support for escalated technical issues.
Implement and maintain system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning strategies.
Manage backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
Develop and maintain IT security standards, patch management, and compliance with organizational policies.
Serve as an escalation point for complex system and network issues.
Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams on infrastructure projects and deployments.
Document system configurations, procedures, and change management processes.
Maintain cyber compliance through collaboration with the cyber team
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior system administrators and IT support staff.

Qualifications
BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
COMPTIA Sec + or higher certification
7 years of experience as a Systems Administrator or similar infrastructure engineering role.
Advanced knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux systems.
Strong expertise with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud environments.
In-depth understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPNs).
Proven experience with identity and access management systems (Active Directory, SSO, MFA).
Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and work independently.
Experience with the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory a plus.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift, move, and position equipment in both indoor and outdoor environments, including on uneven or natural surfaces.
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
Must be able to lean, crouch, twist, bend, and squat as needed to inspect or analyze network infrastructure.
Must be able to work outdoors in deployed environments and perform duties in adverse weather conditions, including cold, rain, snow, and heat.
