WSP is currently hiring an Early Career , Transportation Data Scientist based at the Baltimore, MD office with an expectation to be at the client site (across the street) three days per week. Be involved in strategic projects with our National Emerging Technology Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. This is a coveted role supporting and growing real-time arrival initiatives at the Maryland Transit Administration which plays a pivotal role in moving millions of people per year. This is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity where your input will positively change the reliability of transit service throughout the Mid-Atlantic. Your Impact
This is an exciting and rewarding position supporting the Office of Innovation to improve the customer experience at Maryland Transit which operates six different transit modes throughout Maryland and Washington, DC. The WSP Emerging Technology team has supported this office since its creation in early 2018 and has created impactful industry leaders in the Transit & Rail industry due to the valuable and broad exposure the candidate will experience. Specific responsibilities included but are not limited to:
Perform Real-Time Transit Operation Data Analysis:
Analyze real-time transit operation data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for service optimization.
Use statistical techniques to derive meaningful insights from the data.
Develop clear and concise reports and visualizations to communicate analytical findings effectively.
Provide data driven recommendations by utilizing analytical insights to improve customer experience.
Develop and Maintain Real-Time Reports:
Design, develop, and maintain interactive and dynamic dashboards in Power BI and responsive webpages.
Ensure data visualizations are accurate, intuitive, and facilitate data-driven decision making.
Utilize Code to Parse and Process Data:
Create and optimize queries and custom scripts to clean, process, and prepare data for various analyses and reporting requirements.
Assist in Automating Data Flows:
Collaborate with the Real-Time and MTA IT teams to automate data flows, assisting with buildout of streaming data pipelines and SQL jobs/stored procedures to reduce manual efforts and improve data accuracy.
Coordinate with Multiple Agency Stakeholders:
Work closely with different departments and teams within the agency to gather data, ensure data quality and address specific analytical needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Information Technology, Statistics, or an related field.
1 to 3 years of applicable experience.
Strong proficiency in SQL, Power BI, and data analysis tools. Ability to code in Python/R preferred.
Comfortable with web application development for building responsive web-native dashboards and visualizations.
Demonstrated experience in data analysis, data visualization, and report generation for technical and non-technical staff.
Collaborate with other real-time team members in building data pipelines to store and transform the data (ETL and ELT) for real-time and historical reporting purposes.
Experience working with batch processing/real-time systems using various open source technologies like Spark, MapReduce, NoSQL, Hive, etc. a plus.
Familiarity with AWS data services (RDS, Redshift, Glue, Athena, Kinesis, Lambda Functions, etc.)
Knowledge in data modeling, data access, and data storage techniques in big data platforms.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team and coordinate with multiple agency stakeholders.
Analytical mindset with a keen eye for identifying and predicting insights from large datasets.
High level of attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Assist with implementing systems to catch bugs and monitor data quality, ensuring production data is always accurate and available.
Excellent problem-solving skills, critical thinking and conceptual thinking abilities.
Strong ability to communicate technical concepts and implications to business partners.
Flexibility to adapt to changing requirements as real-time data and other data sets grow and evolve.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience supporting real-time arrival initiative for transit agencies in North America
Master's Degree in similar, technical field
Familiarity with D3.js or similar frameworks is a plus.
Knowledge of project and program management software such as Bluebeam, MS Project, and Primavera
Experience contract management.
